Think this might be related to this quake live problem, which is because of the ATI driver. I’m using version 10.5, which seems more stable then 10.6. 10.4 won’t work for me, all wine games crash. I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 5670. You can do the windows work around for quake live in linux too, it’s just a different file. Copy libatiadlxx.so from the 10.4 driver to /usr/lib/fglrx. Didn’t try that again with 10.5 driver, did try it with quake live and 10.6 driver, and it fixed it. Pretty sure that’s the file.
Update
Doesn’t look like that if you enable Catalyst A.I. You’ll have to mess with mouse settings if you enable that though.
Mouse problem fixed by changing “r_smp” to 1. Setting all cores to performance might fix it too, or whatever core et is running on. Actually I think the problem was because wait for vertical refresh was set to “on unless application specifies it”. Now it’s set to “off unless application specifies it”.
Updated to latest ATI driver, and everything still works, gets rid of one problem, when scrolling in firefox, a gray/beige/whatever colored box would appear over stuff. Guess installing the driver the correct way works better.
Now I remember why I downgraded the driver, the text is messed up in some games, oh well maybe the next update will fix it.
Update
To fix text problem in half life 2 run “sudo aticonfig –set-pcs-str=DDX,ForceXAA,TRUE” and then reboot. doesn’t appear to work with 10.7 driver.
