Wireless prism based

June 30th, 2007 admin

For those who have a laptop with a prism based card and using vector linux this is what to do.

open terminal
su
modprobe -r prism2
modprobe -r prism2_usb
ndiswrapper -i file.inf
You might have to install the driver from your cd or download the driver. It has to be the .inf file.
modprobe -r ndiswrapper (may not need to do)
modprobe ndiswrapper
ndiswrapper -l
make sure it says
hardware present by one of the driver names.
iwconfig
should say like 00.00.000.00 for ap and whole bunch of other crap.
then set it up in vasm.
setup in vasm instructions
click super put root password in
Network
Wireless
ADD
Connect
then click done
then INET
ADD
select first one
then wlan0 or whatever your wireless is on
once done with that click start and which ever one you just setup.
Most people should be able to figure that out on your own but there if you couldn’t.

Note when rebooting you will have to run all the above except the inet adding stuff you basically click connect and start in inet.

Another thing to try

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/answers.php?action=viewarticle&artid=328

I will post update after I’m done rebooting.

Did not work thats what was excepted.
I will not try the standard edition on my laptop. I’m done with screwing with things that don’t work right. Suse is the best for laptops my opinion.

Finale recommendation
Suse so far is the only one that works it doesn’t need ndiswrapper or anything it has a driver that works. So download suse for free or buy it. For a desktop that doesn’t have a prism card probably vector, mepis or ubuntu would be a good choice for me vector linux is on my desktop.

You may have better luck with the standard edition of vector. Though it could be my luck.

You could also try hostap driver. It may work I haven’t tried but I might if I can’t download suse still trying or maybe while its downloading I’ll try that.

Though I just searched on my desktop and it looks like that comes with version 5.1 standard. So ill give it a try but ill still probably go with suse.
