SimCity and Pull My Finger works on iPod touch now

December 21st, 2008 admin Comments off

After erasing all content and settings, and then setting up as new iPod, not restoring backup, both SimCity and Pull My Finger work now. Before SimCity would just open and close, and Pull My Finger had no sound, though don’t bother buying Pull My Finger, the sounds suck. Erasing all contents and settings, is probably the same as doing a restore, and then setting up as new iPod. Guessing that something was corrupted on my iPod, and iTunes backed that up, so restoring the backup didn’t solve anything, just put it back in the same place it was before. Kind of pathetic that I had to do that, just to get SimCity to work.

Oh yeah and once you get SimCity to work, your battery will get drained very quickly, unless you don’t like it.

City of Heroes Mac Beta

December 18th, 2008 admin Comments off

Got an email from the City of Heroes developers saying the open beta is ready. So downloaded the 40 MB file, which isn’t complete game, now its downloading around 2 GB of data. I don’t meet the video requirements, I highly doubt it’ll work, as it is using cider shit. Last game I tried, Spore creator creator that uses that same cider shit, didn’t work. Maybe if my mac mini was running windows it’d work, but fuck that. Not even sure if I should keep it downloading the 2.7 GB of data, as it probably won’t work anyways. Cancelled it, no point in waiting, since its very unlikely it’ll work anyways.

Wasted $9.99 on SimCity for iPod touch

December 17th, 2008 admin Comments off

Just bought SimCity in the app store, and it just opens and quits, restarted like people say to do on tuaw.com, but that didn’t fix anything. Does apple even test these apps or games? Doesn’t seem like it, got ripped off two times, wouldn’t think ea would rip me off, but I guess they will. Won’t be buying anything from app store anymore, as my luck isn’t very good, two apps bought recently, and neither work as advertised, thanks assholes.

Update 12/18/08
Restored iPod touch and deleted some unused apps, still the game doesn’t work. Looks like it only works with the iPod touch 2g or something. Works for my uncle with his iPhone 3g. Though the requirements say that it works with the iPod touch, doesn’t say second generation only, fucking lying assholes.

Update 12/20/08
Works after erasing all contents and settings and then setting up as new iPod, not restoring backup. Now copying all music to it, will see if it still works after its done…

Update 12/20/08
Game still works after putting music back on it. Didn’t put pics back on it yet, might not, never really looked at em anyways.

Alpinecpu.com sucks

December 16th, 2008 admin Comments off

There new design isn’t that great. I wouldn’t consider the site professional for many reasons, does a professional site need “fancy” flash animations or to use flash for that matter? Most people are going with a thing called “ajax” incase you haven’t heard of it. Also looks like they pasted old content from their old, into a flash editor or something. The specials page, I wouldn’t consider a specials page, are they trying to get rid of old stock or something? I don’t see intel core 2 duo. The systems they list are outdated to say the least. Sad the site was last updated this year? Wow doesn’t look like they updated systems eh?

Speaking of Alpine Computers, before buying any systems from them, ask if the system has used parts. When I did strive there I was told that when they have enough “parts” they build systems, not sure if they sell them as used or refurbished, but I’m guessing they use used parts that are laying around.

Also which proves another thing, my grandpa bought our first computer from them, long time ago, the system was crap, ended up dying. Grandpa said they used used parts, which is probably true, I don’t think they mentioned that to him, so in other words, they ripped him off. If it isn’t new, you better tell em, most people will assume that you will use new parts, when building them a custom computer.

Damn when I was doing strive there, I should of wrote down their contacts for wholesaling. Ahh well, I know they buy some stuff from newegg.com, not sure if that’s where they buy everything from or not.

Oh yeah and its funny that they are a computer store, and they don’t sell anything online, nor do they even list an email address. I would expect a better site from a computer store.

Mac Odyssey has a nice site or did before they closed, which sucks that they closed. My uncle got his old burned up MacBook fixed there, along time ago, before it burned up obviously.

Oh yeah one more thing, I don’t remove posts for any reason what so ever. So if you don’t want the public to know something I’ve posted, to bad for you, I never signed anything that said I couldn’t.

Twitter Tools

December 12th, 2008 admin Comments off

Cool looks like I can update my twitter account, every time I post something on my blog. Now I guess I’ll be using twitter again, except I won’t actually have to go to their site to update it.

Oh yeah Twitter Tools is a plugin for wordpress.

Hmm wonder if there’s a way to get picasa web albums to update my twitter too, or can the uploader thing I use do it?

Hmm Flock is some social browser thing, it might be able to update twitter based on what your doing, but I don’t use browser to update picasa, use the mac uploader.

Damn wordpress cache plugin, makes it so twitter won’t be updated on sidebar, ahh well. At least I use less server resources.

A Small Orange has WebDav support

December 12th, 2008 admin Comments off

Didn’t know A Small Orange had WebDav support. That means if you use iWeb, you can publish to a folder, after mounting your website using webdav, you could select that folder, that would make it easier, for those who don’t know how to use FTP clients.

You can see my example iWeb site here, which was published to a WebDav folder.

I think FTP is faster though.

Pull My Finger doesn’t work on iPod touch first generation

December 12th, 2008 admin Comments off

Said it was compatible with iPod touch, didn’t say generation 2 only, I’m guessing the author is a fucking asshole, and made it only work with the internal speakers, so I wasted a total of $1.03 after tax on an app that is useless.

Oh yeah the new flip share software is way better, more responsive and looks better too. When opening the program on flip video camera it said a free upgrade to flip share, so downloaded it.

Update 12/17/08
Version 1.1 doesn’t work either, still no sound, don’t waste your money.

TRENDnet TEW-644UB works in linux

December 11th, 2008 admin Comments off

I bought two TRENDnet TEW-644UB wireless N adaptors from amazon, they were on sale for around $20 per card. Gave one to my mom, and was going to give the other one to sister, not sure if she wants it, so I tried it on Acer Aspire One, and after doing dmesg, it said something about RaLink, searched google for “linux tew-644ub” and found that it uses the rt2870 module, which can be installed using yum in fedora. Still using the card works great in linux, can suspend and it’ll work after resuming too, haven’t had any problems with it yet..

A Small Orange coupons

December 11th, 2008 admin Comments off

If your thinking about signing up for A Small Orange hosting, I have some coupons for you.

15% of coupon: %#sxt53yes
 $5 off coupon: %$5offorangey

Oh yeah this site is now hosted by them, some files won’t be uploaded, such as the gallery, and everything that was in the files folder. I can use flickr or some other free service for posting pictures. Don’t need a giant gallery.

Damn not even using 100MB yet, should of got the tiny package for $25 bucks a year.

So far I’m liking this host, I payed for a full year of the small package. I like the fact that they aren’t overselling as much as other hosts, they might not even be overselling. Also I like that I have unlimited parked and add on domains. They also have ruby on rails, if I ever want to mess with that.

Done working for today

December 5th, 2008 admin Comments off

Not sure if mturk.com really qualifies as a job, but I finally got a total of 200 submissions. Today I submitted 146, 52 yesterday, and the very first time I did it on October 28, 2008 I submitted two things. They actually have stuff I’m willing to do now. Finding RSS feeds for websites is easy and gets kind of boring, but I get a whooping $0.05 per submission. Doesn’t take very long, they give you 10 minutes, though I don’t click accept until I go to site, and see if I can find RSS feed, if site doesn’t have feed, your supposed to put in none, but if your lazy like me, and don’t see it in a common place, and you put none in, but it is there somewhere, then it’ll probably get rejected, so I skip all the ones, that I don’t see a RSS feed on. Or if I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have a feed, I put in none, accidently put none in the wrong box once, so that might get rejected.

Logitech QuickCam Connect works with OS X

December 3rd, 2008 admin Comments off

At first I thought it wasn’t working because macam said “no camera”, but after downloading the latest cvs version it said my camera name. Then I noticed it was really dark and crappy looking, finally figured out I need a lamp turned on for it to look better. Though in parallels, the picture didn’t seem as dark, but it didn’t work very well under parallels. Maybe the next version of macam will make it work/look better.

Fedora 10 on Acer Aspire One

November 29th, 2008 admin Comments off

Update
You can get ubuntu or better xubuntu working very easily with a custom kernel from aspireonekernel.com. Xubuntu will obviously be faster on the aspire one. No need to wait for kuki linux if you don’t want to.

Update
Now using Fedora 10 xfce spin off, much faster then gnome version.
desktop

Went to distrowatch.com today, to see what new linux distros are available, and Fedora 10 is out. Went to google, searched, and found this blog post, that says everything pretty much works out of the box. Will update this post after I install it. Still downloading.

Update
Tried copying the ISO to thumbdrive using unetbootin, didn’t work. It starts booting, then at the end it goes to a shell, where it says it can’t find the root filesystem. Now using the official instructions on fedora’s site, to create the bootable thumbdrive.

Update
Installing to hard drive. Wireless works, easy to connect.

Done xmas shopping

November 28th, 2008 admin Comments off

Pretty much done xmas shopping now, thanks to amazon, some stuff was on sale, not everything. Got free shipping on everything sold by amazon. My grandma changed how were doing Christmas, now we only have to buy gifts for one person, we draw names. So I only got my mom, and sisters something. Didn’t get anybody else anything, those are the only people I think will be getting me something. I did buy myself something too, not on wish list, bought a Kroo 11247 Zipper Sleeve for 10-Inch Portable Laptop (Black) for my Acer Aspire One.

Bought Logitech QuickCam Connect for $20

November 27th, 2008 admin Comments off

Just bought a Logitech QuickCam Connect for $20 at TheNerds.net. Was going to buy an IceCam 2 but after seeing an awful video on youtube of the quality I decided against it. Could of got it for about $15, but I rather pay $5 more for a better webcam. Oh yeah I used the coupon code BLKFRIDAY to get $10 off, and shipping is free Friday and Sunday. I got free shipping, though it isn’t Friday yet, where I live.

Oh yeah doing a google search shows that this webcam will work in OS X using the open source macam driver.

Oh yeah I could of got two webcams for $9.98 after $40 mail in rebate at Office Depot tomorrow, but that is more then I want to spend, and don’t want to deal with mail in rebates, rather spend $20 then $50. Hard to say if you’ll get the rebate or not, I know tigerdirect.com doesn’t like to full fill their mail in rebates, uncle experienced that long time ago. Blackfriday.info kind of sucks, I thought it was $9.98 that you’d be paying, they don’t mention the rebate on there. Somebody else I know is still getting that webcam, and the webcam on netbook doesn’t seem to work very good in skype, and would be nice to be able to use mac for video chatting. So I guess if the person I know gets the rebate, they got a better deal then me. But I only need one, so I don’t care.

uTorrent mac beta released

November 26th, 2008 admin Comments off

Just got an email from uTorrent, saying that they have a mac beta now. Its Leopard and intel only right now, but they plan on expanding the support. Now I can see why a lot of people like uTorrent, or not since its a beta. uTorrent use to be windows only, and therefore I’ve never really used it. Hmm don’t think it’ll work with pretome, as they only allow certain clients/versions. Don’t see version 0.9.0 on the allowed list.

uTorrent mac beta

Update
I now see why so many people like it, it is fast. Finds peers fast, and starts downloading fast, and downloads fast too.

I still prefer transmission though, its stable not beta. uTorrent beta takes sometime to close, kind of annoying. If you don’t do anything in uTorrent just open and close, then it won’t take long, but if you start a download, then remove it, then close, it’ll take a while to close.

Acer Aspire One Blue $250

November 26th, 2008 admin Comments off

That’s a good price for an Aspire One, newegg.com is having a sale. I probably would of bought the blue one if amazon had it when I bought the white one, the white one was the only one sold directly from amazon. They probably have the blue one now too. Hmm think amazon has the windows one in blue, but not linux. That sucks, I don’t buy windows laptops.
