You can pre order Apple iPad now

March 12th, 2010 admin No comments

Apple is taking pre orders for the iPad now. Make sure you buy your iPad from amazon when they have them, that way I make money from the affiliate link. I’m not pre ordering the iPad. If I buy it, it won’t be until June or later.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard Image Capture

March 8th, 2010 admin No comments

After searching the internet for a way to prevent picasa from opening when I connect an iPod, I found out about Image Capture, which comes with Snow Leopard, had no idea I even had that program, thanks Apple for telling me. The hint I found said to make a script, but that isn’t necessary in Snow Leopard, Image capture has different actions for each device, so you can tell your iPod not to open.. Also looks like there’s an AutoImporter action, so that cameras app is useless in Snow Leopard, wasn’t even working for me anyways. Haven’t tried AutoImporter yet, picasa works fine. Hmm maybe the manual for Snow Leopard mentions image Capture, don’t think I read manual, guess I should of.

Tales Of Monkey Island

March 8th, 2010 admin No comments

It isn’t playable on my mac mini with intel GMA 950 video, I read that it will work with windows with that video card though. I got the game in the macheist nano bundle. You can watch a nice video here. I only really wanted two apps in the bundle anyways, RipIt and Flow. Didn’t try the windows version using crossover games.

Carbon Copy Cloner

March 6th, 2010 admin No comments

Carbon Copy Cloner is an excellent program if you want to backup something on an external drive to another external drive, at least for me. I put all my pictures on an external hard drive, and then have Carbon Copy Cloner, scheduled to copy the folder to the other drive. It only copies stuff that is different too. You could probably use time machine, but it’s easier this way for me. I actually have it set to copy everything on my data partition on one of my external drives to my ioSafe.

Hostgator CEO bought A Small Orange

March 1st, 2010 admin No comments

Guess it isn’t so bad since the CEO bought my host A Small Orange, I saw it on their forum. A Small Orange will remain separate, won’t be a clone or anything, which is good news… Cause hostgator is like godaddy or one of the others that oversells. Unlimited space currently doesn’t exist.

ASO will not be turned into a HostGator clone by any means. I am very interested in continuing to develop ASO as a high-end hosting company that prides itself on quality customer service.

That’s a good thing. Don’t need support very often though. Godaddy and hostgator probably work for most people, until you use to many resources… If you have a really small crappy site like this, then it probably doesn’t matter where you host. But I like fast support that I don’t need very often. My site is fast on A Small Orange too. The slowest host I’ve used is godaddy, I think A Small Orange is the fastest. Namecheap is faster then godaddy though, not sure if they are anymore.

It would be fine with me if they increase my storage and or bandwidth by a little bit. Don’t really need much bandwidth though.

More info here.

Got a 15 pound water/fire proof external hard drive

February 24th, 2010 admin No comments

Got an ioSafe Solo USB Hard Drive water/fire proof 1 TB today. It’s still copying my time machine backup partition to the new drive. Using disk utility to do it. Registered it, but didn’t upgrade it to three or five years, that was my only chance. Might buy another one in a year, if they have a bigger one for $199. I bought mine from buy.com.

Oh yeah mine has a hitachi drive inside of it, disk utility said so.

Update
” Could not restore – Cannot allocate memory”

Just got that error, trying again. hmm. I think either disk utility doesn’t work, or drive is messed up. Not working right again.

Update
ioSafe drive is fine, my other external hard drive is having problems. Might of lost all my time machine backups, not a big deal. Doing a backup with carbon copy cloner into a dmg file. ioSafe is fast, not completely silent though. Probably not as loud as other drive.

Update 2/25/10
The drive is louder then I thought, when I woke up, all I could hear was the ioSafe. My mac was sleeping. Might have to turn the ioSafe off at night, not sure why it makes so much noise when its not doing anything.

Magic Mouse

February 11th, 2010 admin No comments

The Apple Magic Mouse, would have to be the best mouse I’ve ever bought. Thought I would have to get use to it, but it’s pretty easy to use. Magicprefs lets you make the tracking speed faster then what the built in mouse preferences lets you make it. It doesn’t work on glass, neither did my logitech mouse. Don’t really care though.

Update
You might want to buy a wrist rest if you get a magic mouse. My wrist is hurting, the damn thing is flat.

Next MacBook will have a blazing fast processor

February 6th, 2010 admin Comments off

Yup it’s true the MacBook will get updated with a blazing fast intel atom processor, it should be shipping sometime next week. You can view the benchmark of it here. It got a pretty impressive 990, I assume lower numbers are better, so it did better then my mac mini that got 2542. As you can see the motherboard and bios are both by Apple.

Update
I just did a benchmark on my MacBookPro6,1, you can view the results here.

And there you go, obviously it can be faked, I’m sure I could of changed the processor and all that other info too, but I was to lazy. And obviously their program should check the data before submitting it.

Oh yeah have fun apple fan boys believing everything you read.

Eye-Fi card

January 26th, 2010 admin Comments off

I got my eye-fi card yesterday, ordered $50 worth of storage from google. Didn’t take 2 or four weeks like it says. Cheaper then buying the card by itself, and I got 200 GB of storage from google. It’s good for lazy people, no need to plug camera into computer, or take SD card out and put in SD card reader. To bad they didn’t give me the better Eye-Fi card Pro 2 for free, it auto deletes pics, and has wireless N, which is faster then wireless G. The card I got is good enough for me for now though. Guess If I had a DSLR then I might want the bigger card that auto deletes.

Oh yeah all Eye-Fi cards are made in the USA.

Comcast has usage meter now

January 13th, 2010 admin Comments off

Was looking at my comcast email that I don’t use, and comcast sent it an email saying they have a usage meter, so now you’ll know if your getting close to your 250 GB bandwidth limit. You can view your data usage at http://customer.comcast.com, just like the email says. My router running dd-wrt tells me the usage too. Only the primary user can view it, so I can’t.

The current data usage allowance for the Comcast High-Speed Internet service is 250GB per month. This means that the vast majority of our customers – around 99% currently – will not come close to using 250GB of data in a month, and do not need to check the usage meter.

You probably don’t need to check it though, unless your in the 1% group.

Boxee box

January 5th, 2010 admin Comments off

I’m going to buy a boxee box, when it comes out. Under 200 bucks, can play more formats then xbox 360, and does flash. It even has two USB ports, so I could hook an external hard drive up to it.

Update
New blog post on boxee’s site, says it’ll ship in the 2nd quarter of this year.

Nexus One is real

January 5th, 2010 admin Comments off

Looks like google released the Nexus One today. It’s only $529 unlocked or $179 with a two year contract. I got a new phone not to long ago, and it was only 200 bucks with a 50 dollar rebate. Seeing as I barely use it, I probably won’t spend $529 on a phone.
