uTorrent mac beta released

November 26th, 2008 admin Comments off

Just got an email from uTorrent, saying that they have a mac beta now. Its Leopard and intel only right now, but they plan on expanding the support. Now I can see why a lot of people like uTorrent, or not since its a beta. uTorrent use to be windows only, and therefore I’ve never really used it. Hmm don’t think it’ll work with pretome, as they only allow certain clients/versions. Don’t see version 0.9.0 on the allowed list.

uTorrent mac beta

Update
I now see why so many people like it, it is fast. Finds peers fast, and starts downloading fast, and downloads fast too.

I still prefer transmission though, its stable not beta. uTorrent beta takes sometime to close, kind of annoying. If you don’t do anything in uTorrent just open and close, then it won’t take long, but if you start a download, then remove it, then close, it’ll take a while to close.

Asus has some competition

January 12th, 2008 admin Comments off

Everex is making a CloudBook, which will be sold at walmart.com on 1/25/08, which will sell for $399. It uses a via processor and has a 30 GB hard drive.

1.2GHz, VIA C7®-M Processor ULV, 512MB DDR2 533MHz, SDRAM, 30GB Hard Disk Drive, 7″ WVGA TFT Display (800 x 480), VIA UniChrome Pro IGP Graphics, VIA High-Definition Audio, 802.11b/g, (1) 10/100 Ethernet Port, (1) DVI-I Port, (2) USB 2.0 Ports, (1) 4-in1 Media Card Reader, (1) 1.3MP Webcam, (1) Headphone/Line-Out Port, (1) Microphone/Line-In Port, (1) Set of Stereo Speaker, (1) Touchpad, (1) 4-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery

Found out about that on eeeuser.com, and they had a link to their new site cloudbooker.com.

Downloading gOS, the operating system the CloudBook will use. Downloading from bittorrent is to slow, thanks to comcast.

Update
gOS is based on ubuntu 7.10, it uses e17 for the window manager. I like the look of gOS compared to the OS on the asus eee pc, hell install gOS on the asus eee pc. If you go to run command, you can type in xterm, and run xterm, if you need a terminal. It already has the synaptic package manager installed.

Feel Good TV on Miro

December 8th, 2007 admin Comments off

I like the channel Feel Good TV on Miro, but the only problem is the shows download by bittorrent. One episode downloaded after many tries. Then I tried to download another and it didn’t work, so I did a search on google, and found this. Then one of the comments mentioned your-freedom.net, which you can use for free 6 hours a day, 18 hours a week. I setup openvpn, I followed their instructions. Then I was wondering what would happen if I start downloading it and then stop the openvnp program, well then the download speed went down, and then it went up, and then it finished downloading. So I tried it again, and it didn’t work. I hate comcast. Maybe you have to let it download a certain amount through your-freedom, or I was just lucky. They don’t care if you use their service for file sharing, as long as you don’t use a US server to do so, or any other servers that say don’t use it for that. To bad you can’t configure a proxy with miro, that’s why you have to use openvpn. Could always use a different bittorrent program.

You might be able to use anoNet as a proxy for bittorrent, as it uses openvpn.

Hmm using azarus you can make it use a proxy for only the tracker, doing a speed test with encryption and the tracker proxy might of fixed it.
Use tor as a proxy for bittorrent (Says how to use it only for the tracker, and for downloading and uploading.)

You can get the classic interface in the latest version of azureus by going to options and clicking Interface and then start and then clicking show by display azureus UI chooser. Might have to be in advance mode to see it.

Download Feeel Good TV episode 20 (Not newest but funny.)

Update
Using a tor proxy for the tracker only and encryption seems to have fixed the downloading problem. I don’t think I can seed or upload though. But at least I can download at 500+ KB.

Encrypt bittorrent traffic
Use tor as a proxy for only tracker communication

Wine on mac mini

September 1st, 2007 admin Comments off

Trying wine on my new mac mini, it just installed starcraft, even know there’s probably a mac version of starcraft, I don’t have it. Darn it doesn’t work, worked in linux with wine. Maybe it’ll work with the no cd crack.

OS X intel compiled wine download

Update
Found starcraft osx native installer. Doesn’t work. Ejects the cd, bastards. Damn it have to download mac version from bittorrent or something, and then use my pc cd key. Damn I hate you blizzard. The file is over 1 GB, and I don’t feel like opening any ports to speed it up, so I’m not going to download it.

Download video

Cool comcast made uploading better, now I don’t have to limit the upload speed, they cancel the upload for me, then it comes back, and then cancels again. My uncle might not like this, but I don’t use bittorrent very often, so I don’t care.

Comcast Tries To Sterilize, Decapitate BitTorrent

Youtube blows “Rejected (length of video is too long)”. Probably because its an ogg video.

“All videos uploaded to YouTube have a 100MB file size limit. The longer the video is, the more compression will be required to fit it into that size. For that reason, most videos on YouTube are under five minutes long and there is a 10-minute length limit for all videos.”

The video is around 2 minutes, youtube is a dumbass, they can’t determine the length of the video.

Solution use tinypic.

Update
Changed port, might work now.

Downloading freespire 2.0

August 9th, 2007 admin Comments off

Arch linux froze again on my laptop. I thought I fixed that, but I guess not. I want something stable, that I don’t have to mess around with. I liked the earlier freespire, but it had some bugs. So I’m going to try 2.0, you have to download by bittorrent though. Looking at other distros on distrowatch.com. Will try freespire first, if it works, then I won’t try any others.

New version of sabayon linux already

August 6th, 2007 admin Comments off

Just downloaded it too. Now downloading the new version, I’ll try the upgrade feature. I saw 3.4e on the server, but I thought it was a beta or something, there was no post on their site, until today, saying its officially released. Should of downloaded it, as it has the same date, it had before when I looked at it. Cool found a fast mirror here, the first comment has a direct link to the file. Try to avoid bittorrent because it slows my internet down. Would have to limit the upload speed to 5 or 10 kb. Plus that download is faster then bittorrent has ever been for me. I don’t open ports either, to paranoid. They have that mirror on the official download page, just didn’t try it.

Fast mirror

Update
Canceled download, I’ll wait until the next release, or the release after that. Not enough new stuff to care about, and Entropy isn’t stable yet. But you can install Entropy, without downloading 3.4e. If you get an error about remote.conf not existing, then run touch /etc/entropy/remote.conf.

equo database generate
>> ####### ATTENTION -> The installed package database will be regenerated, this will take a LOT of time.
>> ####### ATTENTION -> Sabayon Linux Officially Repository MUST be on top of the repositories list in /etc/entropy/repositories.conf
>> ####### ATTENTION -> This method is only used for testing at the moment and you need Portage installed. Don’t worry about Portage warnings.
Can I continue ? [Yes/No] y
Are you REALLY sure ? [Yes/No] y
Do you even know what you’re doing ? [Yes/No] y

Should of said n for the last one. But then it wouldn’t of run.

Planeshift The Simpsons

July 16th, 2007 admin Comments off

Planshift is a free game, not sure why I still haven’t downloaded it. I’ve known about it. Probably shouldn’t download it, linux is low on space. Wonder if you can choose where to install it, don’t want to download or install it on my linux partition. Hmmm I don’t think azarus opens anymore, rather have the 64bit client then the 32bit client, they don’t have any direct downloads of the 64bit version. Don’t really want to create an account either.

Edit
Azarus does open now, probably didn’t before, because of the space problem. Downloading from 1 peer out of 3 peers and 0 seeds. Have some connection error too. “Connection Error: NullPointerException:null)” The tracker url is just http:, getting around 1 KB a second. Hmm no seeds, and none of the peers have a 100%, so I won’t ever get the full download. Either azarus is screwed up, or nobody downloads it or shares it.

Update
Found direct download here. Wonder if the torrent on there is different. Yep its a working bittorrent file. More people peers and seeds, and the tracker works. If the bittorrent download doesn’t speed up, I’ll just download directly from the mirror. Looking at the requirements my laptop wouldn’t be able to play it. They don’t say the cpu speed, but my video card is older then a geforce 3. My desktop should be able to handle it just fine.

Update
Nice I got the game, was almost done making my character and then the server is offline, and the game crashed. Its back on according to the server’s site.

I want StarCraft 2!

July 5th, 2007 admin Comments off

Just watched the video and it was sweet, and now I want the game. And that was only a demo, and it already looks bad ass. It’ll be cool if online play has video support, so when you see the enemy’s face talking to you, you can have your face there, so you can talk shit to the enemy. Hmm but I don’t like rebooting into windows, and plus if I’m in windows all the time I won’t be able to record tv, with mythtv. Wait won’t need to by then, because zap2it’s service is being discontinued. But still I like keeping my computer in linux. Its coming out in 2008, so maybe by then I’ll have a mac. To the post before this, it looks like I’ll have to get a mac with an intel processor, since you don’t have a choice, I don’t have anything against intel. I just don’t like it when people laugh and say AMD’s new processor’s will be slower, as you have no proof what so ever. Other then being an intel fan boy. Don’t want a laptop with vista on it either, also rather have a macbook. I won’t be getting a mac desktop, it would be a laptop. Even know I’m already getting a laptop, thats just to hold me off until I have enough for a mac book, plus if I get a macbook and it breaks, and its under warranty, then I’ll have to get it fixed. Probably need a windows laptop too, just not vista, vista is a resource hog. And microsoft has to many versions of vista.

Download StarCraft 2 video

To download it you have to use some blizzard download program, which works fine in wine, there’s also a mac version. If you look under preferences, you’ll notice the option to disable peer to peer downloading. They could just put a torrent file up or both, as I guess some people aren’t smart enough to know what program to use with a torrent file. But I guess its easier for them to just have one program. But then people who can’t use peer to peer program’s couldn’t download it, if there was only a bittorrent. The download was fast though, so I don’t care. But for those without wine, I guess they’ll have to search around for the video. I can’t upload the video, as I don’t have enough bandwidth, and I don’t want to get sued. Guess you might be able to find it on youtube, but the quality won’t be as good as the download.

Downloading ubuntu 7.04

April 19th, 2007 admin Comments off

Since everybody seems to be downloading it, I guess I’ll download it too. Downloading 64 bit version from mirrors.kernel.org. Faster then bittorrent. The site was down, but its back up. Looks like they changed the design, not sure when they did that. Reading Seven Post-Install Tips for Ubuntu 7.04 says that when you double click a media file it’ll try and download the codec needed to play it, that is if it doesn’t already have the codec. That’s a nice feature, hopefully it works. Done downloading, took less then an hour. Probably less then 30 minutes.

Did comcast increase upload speed?

April 2nd, 2007 admin Comments off

Download Speed: 7834 kbps (979.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 808 kbps (101 KB/sec transfer rate)
Hmmm I did read on their site, that they have some turbo thing, that temporary increases the speed. For 10 MB of the file I think. Its called power boost. Look at comcast’s site. It upps the speed to 12 MB, but it doesn’t say anything about uploading. It says for the first 10 MB of the file it boosts the download speed. Now to try and upload a big file to my site, and see what happens. Use part files, to take advantage of the service. Its less then 10 MB for uploading files, as it just went down to the 43 KB/sec. So if you’re uploading stuff make the part files 5 MB, unless you have the 8 MB service, which I believe gives you a better upload speed. Doesn’t bittorrent download files in parts? Hmmm maybe azureus will implant something to take advantage of comcast’s power boost.

Using San Francisco’s server on Speakeasy, I get the below:
Download Speed: 11783 kbps (1472.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 995 kbps (124.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

LA on speakeasy I get the below:
Download Speed: 9470 kbps (1183.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 934 kbps (116.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
