Magic Jack still doesn’t have my area code…

June 10th, 2009 admin Comments off

magic_jack_no_numbers

Looks like now they have no area codes available in WA. They let you change your number once for free, so I keep checking to see if a local number is available, have some 253 number, not my area code. No phone hooked up to it, nor is the computer turned on that its plugged into. Using virtualbox in ubuntu on a MSI Nettop 100, to run their bogus software. Don’t want to keep mac on 24/7, guess I could, not sure how stable the mac software is though. Not sure why I see ads on tv, since they don’t even offer area codes in my state anymore. Oh yeah I emailed them asking when my area code would be available, below is their response. Oh yeah to find their email, you have to search google, it is Dan@magicjack.com.

We apologize that your area code is not represented right now and we
are doing our best to add as many area codes as possible.
Sorry for the vague reply, but we will keep updating our lists as
fast as we can. Thank you.

Looks like their running out of numbers, and not adding anymore. Ahh well it was only around $30 on ebay. I should sell that linksys phone adapter I bought that I don’t need, was going to use it with vitelity, but changed my mind. Oh yeah you will be able to port a number to them “sometime in 2009″. Guess you don’t really need a local number, but then people that use the shitty local service, will get charged when calling you.

Instead of everyone switching to magic jack, how about get a skype phone adapter, both require your computer to be on 24/7, difference is skype is free. If everyone was using skype, you wouldn’t need to pay anything, its free to call skype people from skype. Then they’d probably start charging for it. Or pay more and get something that doesn’t need your computer.

Virtual Villagers works in crossover games

May 9th, 2009 admin Comments off

virtual_villagers

Didn’t know there was a mac version, as I tried the trial from amazon games. Bought it on sale for $0.98. They charge $20 on their site, so no point in buying it directly, rather use windows version in crossover games. And save about $19. Funny new review says amazon’s downloader thing froze their computer. Haha that’s what you get for using a PC, oh wait this is for PC only. Amazon downloader works perfectly in crossover games, they should give ubuntu a try, and get free trial of crossover games, doubt it’d crash whole computer if it crashed, just crossover games. Or better if you use ubuntu, try wine, its free and based on crossover games…

How to get SIP on iPhone version of Nimbuzz

April 26th, 2009 admin Comments off

Note: I have an iPod touch, so I don’t know if everything is working, no microphone or second generation touch. I do hear message saying I need call out credit from gizmo5.

If your on a mac like me, then you need cross over games, as you can’t setup SIP with their shitty web interface.

After you have cross over games, or cross over office installed, install Nimbuzz for PC.

Now all you have to do is login to PC version, and setup SIP, really simple after logging in go to Settings | Calling Settings. And enter your SIP settings.

nimbuzz_sip

After you set it up, go on your iPhone and open Nimbuzz, and select phone calls, click the No operator selected thing and click Other VoIP Account.

Bought Airfoil

April 17th, 2009 admin Comments off

Just bought Airfoil for $25. There’s a linux version of Airfoil Speakers, which works in ubuntu. So now I can use iTunes instead of MPD for playing music through receiver. Playing videos doesn’t seem to work very good, there’s a 2 second delay, if you read their FAQ. Not a big deal. iTunes through receiver without airport express is good enough for me. Could output internet radio to it too, like pandora.com.

Oh yeah to get it to work in ubuntu, you need to install libmono-cli or something like that. Wait its “libmono2.0-cil” or “libmono1.0-cil”. I have both installed. Also have “libmono0″ installed. and a whole bunch of others, just use sudo aptitude install libmono2.0-cil. And hopefully it’ll install everything it needs..

airfoil

Update
To get airfoilspeakers to work in ubuntu run the following command:
sudo aptitude install libavahi1.0-cil libmono-winforms2.0-cil libmono-system-runtime2.0-cil

Ahh now I know who is responsible for installing wordpress

April 15th, 2009 admin Comments off

Yesterday I got an email saying somebody installed wordpress, and had a url to some spam username on some forum. So one post is missing, did a database restore, which put it back how it was, excluding that one post. Wordpress thinks it needs to be installed if it can’t connect to database, so guessing my host was having problems or something. Simple solution would be to delete /wp-admin/install.php?step=2. And the other most important solution, is to ban the asshole. Not that it’ll do any good, it appears as though their in India. Better off banning everybody inAsia, though I’d think my host would take care of that. What’s really funny, it appears as though their using windows.

164.100.43.41 - - [14/Apr/2009:16:24:48 -0400] "POST /wp-admin/install.php?step=2 HTTP/1.1" 200 360054 "http://vanvalkinburgh.org/2007/03/07/godaddy-cant-login/" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1)"

Must be an outdated zombie computer in India.

Stupid google ads or Safari 4 beta

March 8th, 2009 admin Comments off

stupid_googleads

Was wondering why I’ve been getting ads like the above, so I opened firefox, and that x has some javascript “javascript:nop();”, well I finally got an ad like that in firefox, except it actually displayed the ad, rather then a x, its an ad with javascript, with little arrow things to scroll through em. Looks like google either needs to update there code, or apple needs to fix Safari’s 4 javascript engine, or maybe both. Well most people that visit this site probably aren’t using Safari 4 beta, so it doesn’t really matter.

Damn just bought 1 TB SATA drive for $60

January 31st, 2009 admin Comments off

Or about $70 after 2 day delivery. Bought it from mwave.com, thanks to uncle for telling me about it. Going to put it in my Icy Dock enclosure, pretty sure it supports 1 TB drives. Also bought a IDE and SATA to USB adapter from amazon.com. So I will be able to transfer data from current drive in enclosure to the new drive.

SAMSUNG 1TB HD103UI SATA 5400RPM 32MB (Bare drive) $60

Sabrent USB-DSC5 Serial ATA or IDE 2.5-/3.5-Inch to USB 2.0 Cable Converter Adapter with Power Supply $20

Update
Was cancelled because of a price error, got coupon, pretty sure coupon is tied to my account, so you can’t use it.

Thank you for placing an order with mwave.com. It is with our deepest apologies that we notify you of a pricing error that occurred on our web site over this past weekend. The price for the Samsung hard drive that is included in your recent order, was unfortunately advertised in error due to a vendor miscommunication.

Unfortunately all orders placed for this item, are regretfully being canceled, as our vendor is unable to fulfill the stock or price for this item. The item has been removed from our site, and any payments that have been processed by our automated payment services are being returned immediately. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. It truly was an honest mistake, and mwave is deeply concerned about the situation.

All customers who placed an order for this item, will receive a $20 OFF coupon for any future purchase with mwave, as a token of our appreciation of your understanding. The following coupon code will be activated for your account on file with us by the end of the day.

Tried ordering a different drive, applied coupon, drive said it had free shipping, google checkout had no free shipping option, so didn’t place order. Perhaps you can only get one discount, in that case, guess I won’t get a hard drive.

Update
Bought the drive using debit card and their checkout system. Bought the HITACHI 1TB 0A38016 SATA300 7200RPM 16MB hdt721010sla360(Bare drive) for $74.64 after coupon, and shipping is free.

Holy shit, I’m not working at Rosauers or anywhere

June 28th, 2008 admin Comments off

Damn I need to stay hidden. Looking at craigslist, and there’s a post, that could be me, but I never worked at Rosauers, so I’m in the clear.

Anti-social courtesy clerk,

I can't imagine you actually read these things but on the off-chance you do...
I think about you from time to time and I'm sad you deleted your myspace. I'm sorry I never said goodbye. I feel like an uber-creeper doing this but oh well. Any chance you'd like to catch up on AIM sometime?

- The checker who bought you cookies

Well I’ve deleted multiple myspace accounts, to solve the issue I deleted everything on the page, and haven’t logged in since. Now if somebody asks, if I have myspace, I’ll just say yes, yet I’ll never login, so it won’t matter.

Might need to change my email, hell might as well change my name, and move out of the state or country.

I’m more then anti-social though, I wouldn’t be able to function in a crowd for to long, I’d have to leave.

Oh yeah I should delete this website, or change the domain or prevent everybody from accessing it.

A simple deny from * in my .htaccess, would do the trick.

Adobe Air Download Youtube Videos

February 28th, 2008 admin Comments off

This is some simple javascript for use with the Adobe Air SDK. The below code will show the progress of the download too.

var fileName;
var swfArg = [];

// Get the file name.

function getVInfo(url) {
		var req = new XMLHttpRequest();
               req.onreadystatechange = function() {
                    if (req.readyState == 4) {
                        var str = req.responseText;
			var stra = str.split("\n");
			var n = 0;
			var n2 = 0;
			var n3 = 0;
			while (n < stra.length) {
			if (stra[n].indexOf("title") != -1 && n2 == 0) {
				n2 = n;
				if (n3 != 0) {
				n = stra.length;
			}
			}
			if (stra[n].indexOf("swfArgs") != -1 && n3 == 0) {
			n3 = n;
			if (n2 != 0) {
			n = stra.length;
			}
			}
			n = n + 1;
			}
			swfArg = stra[n3].split(',');
			fileName = stra[n2];
			fileName = fileName.replace("<title>", "");
			fileName = fileName.replace("</title>", "");
			fileName = "YouTube Downloader/" + fileName.replace("YouTube - ", "") + ".flv";
			fileName = fileName.replace("	", "");
			downVideo(document.getElementById("yurl").value);
                    }
                };
                req.open('GET', url, true);
                req.send(null);

			}
	function downVideo(url){
		var n = url.indexOf('v=');
		var n2 = url.indexOf('&', n);
		var len;
		if (n2 != -1) {
		len = n2 - 1;
		}
		else {
			len = url.length;
		}
		var vid = url.substr(n + 2, len);
		la = swfArg[3].split(': ');
		l = la[1].replace("\"", "");
		ska = swfArg[4].split(': ');
		sk = ska[1].replace("\"", "");
		ta = swfArg[5].split(': ');
		t = ta[1].replace("\"", "");
		ha = swfArg[6].split(': ');
		hl = ha[1].replace("\"", "");
		pa = swfArg[7].split(': ');
		plid = pa[1].replace("\"", "");
		var url = 'http://youtube.com/get_video.php?video_id=' + vid + '&l=' + l + '&sk=' + sk + '&t=' + t + '&hl=' + hl + '&plid=' + plid;
		var request = new air.URLRequest(url);
		var urlStream = new air.URLStream();
		var fileData = new air.ByteArray();
		urlStream.addEventListener( air.ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, doProgress );
		urlStream.addEventListener(air.Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler);
		try {
			urlStream.load(request);
		}
		catch (error) {
			air.trace("Unable to load URL: " + error);
		}

	function completeHandler(event){
	urlStream.readBytes(fileData, 0, urlStream.bytesAvailable);
	var file = air.File.documentsDirectory;
	var fileStream = new air.FileStream();
        file = file.resolvePath(fileName);
	fileStream.open(file, air.FileMode.WRITE);
	fileStream.writeBytes(fileData, 0, fileData.length);
	fileStream.close();
	document.getElementById("crap").innerHTML = "Done downloading " + fileName.replace("YouTube Downloader/", "");
				}
			}
function doProgress( e )
{
	var loaded = e.bytesLoaded;
	var total = e.bytesTotal;
	var pct = Math.ceil( ( loaded / total ) * 100 );

	document.getElementById( 'crap' ).innerText = 'Downloading... ' + pct.toString() + '%';
}

Call the function getVInfo(url), which will call the other function. Below is an example of a button that calls that function.

<input type="button" id="downb"  onclick='getVInfo(document.getElementById("yurl").value);' value='Download'/>

There is also a text input box with the id of yurl.

Wii connection error 52230

February 16th, 2008 admin 1 comment

My uncle just got his first wii, he accidentally ordered two on ebay. I remember getting that error when I first tried to connect to the internet with my wii. The first thing is obviously to go to nintendo.com and search for it, yet there “help” doesn’t help or fix anything.

The solution for me and my uncle was to set a static ip address on the wii, also set a static dns server, and change the mtu to 1400. Might have something to do with the ddwrt firmware. For the dns server, you can probably put in your routers ip address, 192.168.1.1, for me. Then assign it an ip that isn’t in use like 192.168.1.126. The gateway is the address of the router, so for me 192.168.1.1.

Safari 3.0.4 is 1.22x slower then firefox 3 beta 3. Firefox seems a lot faster at browsing sites, but I’m not really sure if it has anything to do with javascript, for the reason firefox is faster. Now I’m going to switch back to firefox. I don’t mind testing a beta.

The test was done with SunSpider.

Fuppes SVN-578

December 21st, 2007 admin 8 comments

Update
The package has been updated, you no longer need to download and install ffmpeg, everything required is included.
Download fixed package
Hopefully the new package is fixed, intel only for now.

Update
You can download a build with video transcoding enabled here. You will also need to download and install ffmpeg.

Version SVN-578 2007-12-19

NOTE: please remove your fuppes.db

* fixed ffmpeg compilation for
older ffmpeg versions (patch from Klaus S. Madsen)
and with missing libswscale
* fixed FAAD decoder for Ubuntu (patch from Klaus S. Madsen)
* fixed stupid buffer overflow in
FFmepgWrapper (patch from Jared D. McNeill)
* MediaServer description values configurable
* libnotify support without gnome-panel-applet (#1814615)
* fixed #1822462 (ImageMagick includes)
* fixed #1815588 (segfault when en-/decoder fails to load)
* added optional refId support for virtual folders
* support for Yamaha RX-N600
* #1838835 temp dir configurable
* pass additional ffmpeg arguments (add node)

I updated the fuppes package to version SVN-578. You can download it here. You have to remove your fuppes.db file, otherwise it won’t work. Open a terminal and do the below:

rm .fuppes/fuppes.db

For the xbox 360 to see it, you might have to add the below to fuppes.cfg:

Under:

<device name="Xbox 360" virtual="Xbox 360" enabled="true">

Add:

<description_values>
<friendly_name>%s %v : 1 : Windows Media Connect</friendly_name>
<model_name>Windows Media Connect compatible (%s)</model_name>
<model_number>2.0</model_number>
</description_values>

So it should look like the below:

    <device name="Xbox 360" virtual="Xbox 360" enabled="true">
      <description_values>
      <friendly_name>%s %v : 1 : Windows Media Connect</friendly_name>
      <model_name>Windows Media Connect compatible (%s)</model_name>
      <model_number>2.0</model_number>
      </description_values>
      <user_agent>Xbox/2.0.\d+.\d+ UPnP/1.0 Xbox/2.0.\d+.\d+</user_agent>
      <user_agent>Xenon</user_agent>
      <xbox360>true</xbox360>
    </device>

You can find fuppes.cfg, in .fuppes, in your home folder, in finder click go and go to folder and type in .fuppes. Or type nano .fuppes/fuppes.cfg in a terminal.

OS X stream videos and music to the xbox 360 with fuppes

December 8th, 2007 admin 2 comments

Update
Download the fixed package here. That package should work.

Update 12/14/07
You can download a pkg installer here. It doesn’t contain my working config files though, you can find my working config files here. Fuppes will be installed into /opt/local/bin, so run /opt/local/bin/fuppes to start.

Fuppes is a free UPnP media server, which can stream to the xbox 360 and other devices too. No need to pay for some program called “connect360″. You can compile it yourself, or download the intel binary, sorry powerpc users, I didn’t cross compile.

Download Fuppes-SVN-549 intel binary OS X (Tested on my mac only, running leopard, no guarantee it will work. Use at your own risk.)

The source code has been edited, so you can go to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, which will rebuild your virtual folders, it already had the ability to update the database or rebuild the database by the web interface, I just added support to rebuild the virtual folders from the web interface.

The main reason was so I could add the following to a shell script:

cd /tmp && wget myip:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuild
cd /tmp && wget myip:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv

Which will obviously do the same thing as if you pointed your web browser there.

Download PresentationHandler.cpp (The only file I modified.)

If you make a cronjob to run the above commands, then you will most likely want to set a port number in fuppes.cfg, so it doesn’t change every time you restart it.

For those who can’t read my included readme file, I copied and pasted it here.

Install

Double click install, the install script will copy everything in bin/ to /usr/local/bin and everything in lib/ to /usr/local/lib.

Edit vfolder.cfg, and then copy it to ~/.fuppes, ~/.fuppes will be created the first time you run fuppes, or just do mkdir ~/.fuppes, vfolder.cfg isn’t required by all devices. If you don’t want to use the xbox 360 virtual folder configuration, then change

<vfolder_layout device="Xbox 360" enabled="true">

to

<vfolder_layout device="Xbox 360" enabled="false">

Then change

<vfolder_layout device="default" enabled="false">

to

<vfolder_layout device="default" enabled="true">

You don’t need to copy the included fuppes.cfg, as it will create one when you open it. It is already configured to be working with the xbox 360 though. You might need to put your local ip address in between

<interface></interface>

Also you will most likely need to change the shared objects, to whatever folders you want to share, you can add as many

<dir></dir>

as you want.

After you have it configured you can run it with fuppes, then type r, and then after that is done type v, if you need virtual folders. The source has been modified so you can go to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, which will rebuild the virtual folders, you need to do that after you update, or rebuild the database.

The script was modified so I could add to a shell script on my mythtv box, to automatically update the database, after it exports the show to the xvid format.

youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuild
youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv

Nothing will show in your browser when going to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, if you look in the terminal you will see that it is working, unless you don’t have a vfolders.cfg file in ~/.fuppes.

Uninstall

Double click uninstall, which will delete everything it installed, but it won’t delete your settings by fuppes, you can delete it manually by running in a terminal “rm -fr ~/.fuppes”

Where to buy the Nintendo Wii

November 21st, 2007 admin Comments off

Walmart.com crappy customer choice bundle (Only $677.38)
Newegg.com bundle ($569.99)
Yesasia.com wii system + wii sports (Only $449.99, ships in 7 to 14 days.)
Gamestop.com (Pre order bundle.)
Craigslist.org

You can always go to the store and see if they have it or call them, but most likely the ebay assholes already bought them all, and are now selling them to idiots who are willing to pay more then $250 for the system.

V2DPG version 0.2 released

October 2nd, 2007 admin Comments off

New version, basically removed install.sh, as it it isn’t necessary anymore. mplayer, mencoder, and mpeg_stat are included in the app, so no need to copy it to /usr/bin, also the dpgconv script was edited, so it would work that way.

V2DPG

October 1st, 2007 admin Comments off

V2DPG is my first ever program written on a mac, well using xcode, and applescript, as I’m lazy. Basically its a frontend for dpgconv, now mac users can have an easy solution to converting videos to DPG, the format moonshell uses.

V2DPG page

Update
Hmm it might not be working anymore. Not sure why. But it did work, but now it doesn’t. Ahh wrong mplayer and mencoder binary. zip file updated, re download, should work now. Ok it does work, the install.tool doesn’t work.

Solution:

cd to/v2dpg #if its on your desktop, then Desktop/V2DPG_01
sudo cp mplayer /usr/bin
sudo cp mencoder /usr/bin
sudo cp mpeg_stat /usr/bin

Or copy mplayer, mencoder, and mpeg_stat, to your home folder, then run install.tool.

Messing around with iWeb

September 13th, 2007 admin Comments off

Have nothing better to do, so I’ve been messing around with iWeb, which came with my mac mini. Made apple.vanvalkinburgh.org, which I made in iWeb. You can publish the site to a folder, so you don’t have to have a .mac account. iWeb also has a google adsense widget, you put your email in, and either your zip, or the last five digits of your phone number, and then it validates it with google. No copying code anymore, yes if you know somebody else’s email, and zip or phone number, then you can put their ads on your site, you don’t get access to their account though, just the code.

Didn’t buy a mac mini

August 31st, 2007 admin 1 comment

I guess it doesn’t come with a standard warranty, it also doesn’t come with a vga adapter, so it appears as though compusa, and apple.com are both false advertising.

Quote from compusa.com “VGA video adapter”.

So it appears as though, they falsely advertise.

Also says on compusa.com that it has a 1 year warranty, which I guess they are falsely advertising too.

Quote from apple “VGA video output (using included adapter) to support analog resolutions up to 1920 by 1080 pixels”.

“Your Mac mini comes with 90 days of free telephone support and a one-year limited warranty. Purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan to extend your service and support to three full years. Only the AppleCare Protection Plan provides you with direct telephone support from Apple technical experts and the assurance that repairs will be handled by Apple-certified technicians using genuine Apple parts. For more information, visit Apple support or call 800-823-2775.”

Once again false advertising, according to that guy.

One more thing, I will never shop at compusa again.

Looks like compusa is the only store that sells the mac mini. Oh well, guess I won’t buy one from anybody else either. Don’t want to wait for shipping or pay for shipping.

Might just buy it on compusa, and do in store pickup, then you just go and pick it up.

Forgot to say, I won’t be buying an apple keyboard, I don’t like how either the new or old ones look. Don’t like the apple mouses either, I already have a usb mouse. Didn’t really like how the new macbooks looked either, the black one was ok.
