Moblin beta
Intel released a beta of their linux based OS for netbooks today. Maybe I’ll try that on Aspire One after it comes.

Blackblaze is out of beta now, so I’m trying it. Get 15 days free, probably not enough to backup all my data. If this thing makes me lag while playing 360 online, then I won’t be paying for it. Probably will make me lag, stupid comcast.
Update
Somebody on twitter said to cap upload since it’ll probably make it lag. I think that’s what the “Throttle” does, move it closer to faster network, and hopefully that means backblaze will use less bandwidth, and leave more for everything else. Could always setup QOS, but to lazy, and I think that worked anyways. At first I moved the throttle to faster uploads, and my network monitor said I was uploading at around 60 KB/s, and nows its staying under 40 KB/s, shouldn’t lag now. Oh yeah using the network monitor that comes with iStat menus.
Oh yeah the only bad thing is, it looks like I’ll have to do a new complete backup when I get a new mac. Another good reason not to buy a new mac, or I could just wait till I get a new mac to buy backblaze. That might be the best solution.
I was right about the throttle thing, just look at their speed test page. Hmm maybe I should move it backup to the default…
“A connection of 6998 kbps upload would backup:
73807 MB in a day”
Stupid power boost. That fast upload only lasts for a short time. I think it use to only be for downloads though.
Currently I’ve tested the following distros on the acer aspire one:
Ubuntu & Xubuntu
Xubuntu is faster, both are easy to get working, just download a custom kernel from aspireonekernel.com.
Dream Linux
Currently that’s what I have on it, everything seems to work, didn’t do any tweaking. Seems somewhat slow, probably because I haven’t done any tweaking, to bad it doesn’t do it for me. Used the OEM installer, as I couldn’t see the buttons in the regular installer. I think I prefer xubuntu over this, so probably won’t tweak it. Perhaps I’ll try the recently released zenwalk linux 6.0.
Forgot all about April Fools day, gbatemp.net reminded me. If cnet networks bought them, all downloads would be gone on that site. Oh yeah and a lot of other stuff would be gone too.

There is a build of the open source version of Virtual Box available here for download. Seems to work fine, had to change one setting as that site states “If you can’t boot your guest OS, try PIIX3 IDE controller setting.”. You can also download it from here.
Never knew how bad this site looked in IE7. Don’t care, it looks fine in safari and firefox and opera too. Its functional in IE7, the colors aren’t the correct colors though.
Update
Fixed it, only because it was an easy fix. Might not look right in IE6 though.
Update
Beta 3 of Virtual Box for OS X is available on their site.
Can’t wait until firefox 3.0 is released, its a lot faster then the stable version. Don’t want to loose any data, so I probably won’t be running the unstable fast version. Oh yeah and fireftp, doesn’t work with it, but no script does.
Download it at your own risk! I take no responsibility for any data you loose, neither does mozilla. Now I need to backup my profile, so I can run the alpha again.
Looks like I’ll be testing this, until its stable. I can’t provide any pictures or videos on how fast, and sexy the mac version is, you’ll just have to download the mac alpha yourself. Make sure you backup your profile though. Its under yourname/Library/Application Support/Firefox.
Hmm might of just found a bug, sort of, doesn’t really effect anything, the sidebar just looks funny, when scrolling.
I’ll provide one screenshot, of the download manager.

One warning though, stuff seems to open to fast, like right clicking an image, and clicking properties, or even copying and pasting, it’s way to fast. Hopefully the stable release will fix this issue.
I had to purchase Data Rescue 2, as I screwed up the partition on my external drive. I got all the data I wanted, could of got it all. Took a while to copy it to my other computer, by USB 2.0. I screwed up the first time, so it took twice as long. Copied everything but my downloads folder to my other computer, don’t have enough room, for the downloads folder on my other computer, had to delete files, on my other computer, just to get the data on it. Just finished making one big partition, now I need to copy all the data back to it, oh yeah just remembered, I have to disable journaling, so linux can write to it.
Update
My music doesn’t have ID3 tags, filenames, aren’t correct. Guess I’ll have to ask Jeff to bring his iPod over. Hmm videos are messed up too, good bye videos, don’t want to sort through em. Should open a text file, like a .php file, and see if its screwed up too. Yep, I wouldn’t recommend buying Data Rescue 2.
Good thing I haven’t deleted any important files off my other computer.
The new beta has been released for the Paragon NTFS driver for Mac OS X. Can’t try it until I’m done copying around 9 GB of data over the network. Probably should of plugged it into my other computer by USB. I have around 7 GB with 18 minutes left.

Fixes in Paragon NTFS driver beta 2
The bad news is “Dear Forum Visitors, please note that beta 1 and beta 2 are 30-days trial versions.”. Now I think I’m gong to copy all the data from the NTFS partition to my Mac OS Extended partition on the same external hd. I’ll provide new speed test results with beta 2, after I’m done copying data to it. Hmm I think I’m going to copy all the data from the NTFS partition to the Mac OS Extended partition, before running a speed test. Copying the downloads folder right now which is around 53 GB, says it’ll take about an hour. Wonder how long that would take with USB 2.0.

I’m going to remove this driver, because it isn’t stable.

Amazon just released a new mp3 download service, drm free, music, use with whatever the fuck you want. Songs are cheaper too. $0.89, instead of $0.99. Not sure if all the songs are that price, but I searched for weird al, and pink floyd, both have songs for $0.89. Hmm cool the mp3 downloader is for os x, and windows. I can probably convince my mom into using amazon instead of the iTunes store. You don’t have to use their mp3 downloader, its just nice to have the option.

A cool free program, that you can drag an image on, and it gets colors from it, which you can use for whatever you want.
I use to get some error when installing any extension, think it was error 201, or something. I uninstalled 1passwd, while firefox was running, so it didn’t remove the extension. So I deleted everything in the extension folder, and I deleted “extensions.rdf”. Both can be found in Library Applications Support Firefox. Needed to install DownThemAll, so hopefully I can resume downloads, after waking my iBook up.

The perfect song for the iBook, and OSX. Start using a mac, without two buttons, then on a PC laptop, you’ll click ctrl and the button, and nothing will happen.
OSX froze or messed up two times, once it froze, second time, I could see the mouse, but nothing else. Both happened when waking it up, think I fixed it, turn off the lock thing. Under security.
Tremulous mac version (Need a mouse to play.)
Hmm I’ve been saying linux wrong all along. Ahh well, I’ll keep saying it the wrong way. Shouldn’t be reading this post on ubuntuforums. I want to try the bloated freebsd, not the lightweight fast puppy linux. I don’t want to try two things at once. I don’t have two cd drives, and puppy isn’t small enough to put on a floppy, and there’s no option to boot two operating systems at the same time. I don’t want to waste a dvd on a 70 MB file or however small it is. My laptop won’t boot from usb. Hmm well it might with one of those boot loaders, that you put on a floppy. Can’t remember the name of it.
To settle this problem, I’ll have to see which downloads faster. So which ever one I get faster, is the one I’m trying first, and hopefully won’t need to try the other. Not starting freebsd over, it still has more then 70 MB to get.
On that ubuntu post, it says the newer versions of puppy linux are based on T2.
And the winner is puppy linux!
Looks like I need to enable tapping, and then disable tapping. So I can have the pleasure of disabling tapping.
Is there a slow down button? Whenever I click something it opens instantly, I like to wait a second or 5 or so.
Update
Going to try freespire now. I would use puppy linux maybe, if I didn’t need/want to install anything else. Not very many packages to choose from. Don’t want to hunt down packages on their forum.
Planshift is a free game, not sure why I still haven’t downloaded it. I’ve known about it. Probably shouldn’t download it, linux is low on space. Wonder if you can choose where to install it, don’t want to download or install it on my linux partition. Hmmm I don’t think azarus opens anymore, rather have the 64bit client then the 32bit client, they don’t have any direct downloads of the 64bit version. Don’t really want to create an account either.
Edit
Azarus does open now, probably didn’t before, because of the space problem. Downloading from 1 peer out of 3 peers and 0 seeds. Have some connection error too. “Connection Error: NullPointerException:null)” The tracker url is just http:, getting around 1 KB a second. Hmm no seeds, and none of the peers have a 100%, so I won’t ever get the full download. Either azarus is screwed up, or nobody downloads it or shares it.
Update
Found direct download here. Wonder if the torrent on there is different. Yep its a working bittorrent file. More people peers and seeds, and the tracker works. If the bittorrent download doesn’t speed up, I’ll just download directly from the mirror. Looking at the requirements my laptop wouldn’t be able to play it. They don’t say the cpu speed, but my video card is older then a geforce 3. My desktop should be able to handle it just fine.
Update
Nice I got the game, was almost done making my character and then the server is offline, and the game crashed. Its back on according to the server’s site.
It looks a lot better then the default windows xp theme.
File is called royalenoir.rar.

I finally finished re programming it in pascal. Now you don’t need stupid microsoft .NET. You could run it on a mac or in linux, but that would be totally useless. Oh yeah I should say it would have to be compiled for linux or a mac for it to run though. Since I don’t see the use I won’t make a binary for either.
