Dell Latitude 2100

May 19th, 2009 admin Comments off

Hmm dell just released a new netbook that you can configure with a touch screen, and you can get it with either ubuntu or windows. Hmm when clicking link it wants to know my segment though… I guess I can’t buy it then. I’m not in any of those segments.

Hmm just noticed the Dell Mini 10v is only $299… Damn it, not even going to open aspire one now, just going to send it back. You can get either ubuntu or windows on it. Wait if you add 6 cell battery same price, but you can get wireless N, so better deal, no need to use USB wireless N if you want wireless N. You can get it built in on the dell…

Decent newegg bundle

May 16th, 2009 admin Comments off

Newegg has a DIY bundle for $330 or $295 after rebates. I like the case they put in that bundle, and I like the fact that they put a bundle together with pretty much everything you need. Well you might need CD drive, I have plenty of those. Not really needed anymore, can boot ubuntu from USB drive. But I do have a spare DVD burner in enclosure that I’d put in it, if I bought that bundle. Not sure if I should buy it or not, if there’s no tax maybe. With shipping its $354.02. Hmm probably no tax, just $24 shipping. Guess turning the rebates in might be worth it to get shipping money back, if you ever get rebates back. Decent price for a custom built machine with no windows on it.

I could always get a dell laptop with ubuntu on it, not this month though, would want to configure it, add more ram, better processor, better battery, and bluetooth. Not sure if I want new desktop or laptop or wait and get iMac. Or I could get a new mac mini, not sure if the “improvements” are much of an improvement over the mac mini I have. Not sure if I’d notice anything, maybe if they start offering 4 GB of ram with $599 one.

Update
Still haven’t decided, might buy the bundle though, as newegg accepts paypal now.

Update
Not buying bundle. Might buy an iMac from newegg in future though, no tax is nice.

Which computer to buy….

May 14th, 2009 admin Comments off

People like to ask me that question.

She wants a computer she can surf the internet on, download music and photos, burn CD’s or DVD’s, email, use excell and word on.

Computers that would work:

Mac Mini
Make sure you add 2 GB of memory, you can configure the cheapest one. Oh yeah but you’ll have to buy a monitor and stuff too…

Dell Inspiron 530s
I’d recommend getting one with a monitor. They have better specs. Vista is a memory hog from what I’ve heard. Make sure you get Intel Core 2 Duo for the processor.

Dell Popular Laptop Deals
Any of those would work, just make sure you get an Intel Core 2 duo processor and a 9 cell battery.

If you want to buy it locally, then Best Buy has some computers that will work too.

Dell – Inspiron Desktop with Intel® Coreâ„¢2 Duo Processor E7400

Gateway – Desktop with AMD Phenomâ„¢ Triple-Core Processor 8400

HP – Pavilion Desktop with AMD Phenomâ„¢ X4 9550 Quad-Core Processor

Compaq – Presario Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 4450e+ Dual-Core Processor

Dell – Inspiron Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 5000+ Dual-Core Processor

eMachines – Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 Dual-Core Processor 4050e

Pretty much any desktop will work… Just make sure it has at least 2 GB of ram, if buying a PC.

Fedora 10 on Acer Aspire One

November 29th, 2008 admin Comments off

Update
You can get ubuntu or better xubuntu working very easily with a custom kernel from aspireonekernel.com. Xubuntu will obviously be faster on the aspire one. No need to wait for kuki linux if you don’t want to.

Update
Now using Fedora 10 xfce spin off, much faster then gnome version.
desktop

Went to distrowatch.com today, to see what new linux distros are available, and Fedora 10 is out. Went to google, searched, and found this blog post, that says everything pretty much works out of the box. Will update this post after I install it. Still downloading.

Update
Tried copying the ISO to thumbdrive using unetbootin, didn’t work. It starts booting, then at the end it goes to a shell, where it says it can’t find the root filesystem. Now using the official instructions on fedora’s site, to create the bootable thumbdrive.

Update
Installing to hard drive. Wireless works, easy to connect.

Acer Aspire One 8.9″ Mini Laptop 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 512 MB RAM, 8 GB Solid State Drive, Linpus Linux Lite White

August 10th, 2008 admin Comments off

Cool the Acer Aspire One is out. It looks better then the eee pc, better processor. And best of all another option to choose form, if you’re buying a cheap linux laptop, or I hear people call them “netbooks”. Those who install windows on any linux based computer, are fucking morons, windows is crap, linux is better, buy a windows computer, if you want windows. Read that Dell will be announcing new products next week, which might include a netbook, hopefully a linux netbook, so there will be more choices.

Don’t be fooled, that you can get an asus eee pc, with more space, for $399, it may have more space, but an older crappier processor, and it doesn’t look as nice as the Aspire One.

Hmm maybe next month, I’ll find out if I qualify for SSI. If not, then I guess I better start looking for work. I should probably look for a job anyways.

Macs Averaging Twice the Price of PCs

August 7th, 2008 admin Comments off

What a useless false article, surprised google news links to it. I didn’t pay over $1,000 for my mac, I payed about $599. Pathetic article, don’t listen to morons, that don’t know shit. Mac’s may be expensive, but I’m glad that I won’t need to purchase another computer for sometime. The new windows vista OS, makes older computers useless, you will either have to stay with xp, or use linux, I’d personally be using linux on a normal pc. My mom’ s laptop can’t run windows vista, glad it can’t, that means I don’t have to be the one fixing it, though even if it could she probably wouldn’t upgrade it. She isn’t even done paying it off, and it can’t run the latest winblows OS.

Older ppc mac’s can run leopard, my uncles old iBook could run leopard, if I didn’t sell it. The person that bought it, might of put leopard on it. If the next version of OS X, still supports ppc macs, then that tells you something about apple. Apple likes to support their systems for a long time, non like microshit. Don’t forgot, microsoft has to lie to get people to like vista, they tell them that the OS their showing them is new, when its the crappy vista, they should mention how much the PC was, that is capable of running such a bloated OS. Well the price for new systems might of went down.

Just think about all the people who bought a windows computer a year before vista came out, and it can’t run vista. So their year old PC, can’t run the latest pathetic OS by microshit. Now do the world a favor, and stop buying windows PCS, buy a linux PC, or a mac. Or don’t buy a computer at all.

Oh yeah my uncle is still using a first generation macbook, and it runs leopard fine. Not having to buy a new computer as often, results in you saving money in the long run, and therefore you can buy a quality product, rather then a piece of shit. Ahh my uncle got his macbook in 2006. Now lets see how long he waits, until he buys a new one.

I got my mac mini almost a year ago, the anniversary is coming up in September.

Everex CloudBook $299

July 21st, 2008 admin 2 comments

Looks like for a limited time you can get a Everex CloudBook for $299. One review says installing windows make it better, that is a false comment, installing windows on a linux laptop, defeats the purpose of the linux laptop. I probably wouldn’t keep the pre installed OS on it, I’d put a better linux distro on it. I won’t be buying one though, don’t need one, iPod touch does enough for my portable needs.

I can’t comment on how well its made or anything, I don’t know if its a good buy, the Asus EEE PC’S, I think have better reviews, and are more popular, so probably getting an Asus EEE PC, would be a better buy, though installing windows on any linux device, should void the warranty, because windows suck, face it, and get over your fucking windows.

Though the best buy would be an iPod touch, because it has a touch screen, and its only $299, and its made by apple, and the 2.0 firmware is buggy, and apple might have a price drop and new products soon, so you might feel ripped off.

Bought a new hard drive for mac mini

June 9th, 2008 admin Comments off

Just bought a new hard drive for my mac mini, bought it on ebay, free shipping and no tax. Bought a NEW Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 HTS722016K9SA00 Hard Drive. Argh I’m an idiot, should of bought it directly from buy.com, rather then their ebay store. Would of saved $10, if I payed by google checkout. Guess I’ll buy some crucial ram directly from buy.com, and save $10. Need the $10 in July, for the iPod touch 2.0 firmware. Oh yeah I also bought an Iron Man shirt on amazon.

Why does paypal and google charge $1.00? Now I only have $9.58, not enough for the update. Damn you paypal and google.

Nokia 6086

May 29th, 2008 admin Comments off

I have to buy a damn USB cable for it, if I want to put any unsigned programs on my Nokia 6086 phone. The program is windows only, and bluetooth doesn’t work in parallels or virtual box. The USB cable isn’t very expensive on amazon, don’t buy from nokia, they want $50. The Nokia CA-53 Connectivity Cable is what I need. I need to use two programs, one called MobiMB v3.4 DP3 and the other BeHappy. Both can be found here. The BeHappy thing comes with an english readme, or you can use google translator to translate that link. Oh yeah my moms laptop doesn’t have bluetooth.

Update
Just tried vmware fusion, bluetooth works, but that mobi program doesn’t see the hidden folder. It only shows an inbox folder, I read that you need a usb data cable to see the hidden folder. So it looks like I still have to wait, until I get a data cable.

Women sues Best Buy for $54 million

February 13th, 2008 admin Comments off

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 (UPI) — A Washington woman is suing Best Buy for $54 million after the company lost her laptop computer while repairing it, it was reported Wednesday.

I guess she had a really really really really expensive laptop, didn’t know Best Buy sold laptops for $54 million. Damn I wish I had $54 million dollars. I wouldn’t be buying a laptop though, I’d be going on a long term vacation.

Campbell received $1,110.35 and a $500 gift card for her inconvenience, Best Buy spokeswoman Nissa French told the Minneapolis newspaper in an e-mail.

I guess the money the laptop was worth and the $500 gift card, wasn’t enough. One greedy bitch to say the least.

I posted a comment on her blog, but she has to approve it for it to be visible. Oh well, at least she’ll see it, and ban me, if she can. Don’t care either way.

Asus Eee PC

November 14th, 2007 admin Comments off

Now I want the Asus Eee PC, the cheapest one, that won’t be released until the end of November is fine, will be $299. Probably to much, so I should stop looking at it, because I know, I won’t get it. Ahh well. Don’t want the Nokia N800 anymore, after comparing the specs and the price. It isn’t worth it. So I still only have one thing on my list, the JBL speakers. I don’t want to put it on my list or ask for it, because $299 is to much. I could sell my other computer, but I doubt I’d get very much, and if I sold it, I would want at least $399, so I can get the better model, with more ram. But I would really rather have the one that you can upgrade the ram on, ok I guess you could attempt at unsoldering, the soldered on ram, if you so desire, but I would destroy it. Thinking the Nokia N800 is $399, because of the link above, is completely false, because you can get it for less then $300 at buy.com and amazon. Unless you want to buy it through nokia, and get totally ripped off.

Hmm I think I rather have a wii though, I want to play the new super mario galaxy game. I don’t think its a good idea to ask for something or to buy something when its first released, as my uncle bought the iPhone to early, though he did wait. So I’ll wait till next year or the year after. By then I might have a job, and some money. If you can’t find a wii, you must not go to the store very often. I remember seeing it in stock at walmart, and my mom’s boyfriend say he saw it in stock somewhere too. Guess some people only order online. I don’t think I want to play manhunt, due to psychotic reasons. I might go even more crazy if I play it. Well they do blur the executions out, but there’s probably sound. Unless they beep the sound out.

Ghost Squad on the wii looks like a cool game too, oh yeah and the wii zapper is coming out 11/19/07. Ghost Squad is coming out 11/20/07.

Sold one laptop

August 27th, 2007 admin Comments off

Sold the gateway laptop for $200 to Jeff. Don’t want to wait. Lowered the price of the iBook to $350.

Update
Probably won’t sell the iBook on craigslist, because people have better iBook’s, under priced. You can get a better one with a warranty for $100 more. The person that’s selling it either stole it, or is a moron.

Tomorrow is the last day for iBook on craigslist

August 26th, 2007 admin Comments off

If nobody wants to buy it for $450, then I’m going to sell it on ebay. I’ll start it at $300 no reserve. Think craigslist is useless for more expensive items, people want a $100 laptop. Will get more on ebay, unless somebody buys it for $450. Might put a buy it now on ebay for $450. Jeff knows somebody that might buy my other laptop for $300, in the middle of September, when he gets payed. Just deleted the gateway laptop on craigslist. Will probably wait until the middle of September. Or I’ll sell it on ebay.

Shouldn’t of bought that laptop

August 26th, 2007 admin Comments off

One person doesn’t want it because it doesn’t have the restore cds, another person doesn’t want it because they can’t read the specs, and it only has 256 MB of ram. Lowered the price to $250. Will go on ebay, if I don’t get any emails.

Mac mini is in stock at local compusa

August 25th, 2007 admin Comments off

Hmm so tempting, aww screw it, the iBook is going on craigslist too. After I reinstall tiger. I’ll buy the cheap mini, $600, or maybe I’ll be even cheaper, and buy one of the old models. But I kind of want the intel core 2 duo processor. Hmm I’ll just get the new model. I don’t really care if its 1.83 GHz or 2 GHz, so I’ll just be cheap and get the $600 one. Might be able to get $400 out of the iBook.

It’ll be a pain to switch the monitor and keyboard and mouse manually between them, don’t want to buy a kvm switch at compusa, most of the reviews are bad. Could buy a windows laptop, and wipe it, and put linux on it. Won’t buy a ubuntu dell laptop, because they cost more then the windows ones, and start at slower speeds.

Maybe I’ll make up my mind tomorrow, after I use my grandpa’s iMac, still selling the iBook, just don’t know what I’ll buy, probably a mac mini, but no guarantee.

Or I could buy an iPhone, anybody want to pay the bill?

Might get a refurbished mac on apple.com. Depending on how much I get. Wonder if I have any allowance yet.

Laptop on craigslist

August 25th, 2007 admin Comments off

I put my gateway laptop on craigslist, doesn’t look like Jeff is going to buy it. Put it on there for $300. Won’t go under $250.

Update
Somebody already emailed me, they want me to call them. Not calling them until tomorrow.

Update
I’m an ass. Just said its still available to somebody else. Don’t really want to call anybody. Those who don’t ask me to call em, have a better chance. Hmm somebody just said they would give me a $100, well I’ll take the wireless card, give you a dead battery, and I’ll be taking the ram. And the hard drive, cd drive. I payed more then $100, not emailing them back, they can take a hike. The title says $300 for the price, can they read? Why would I sell it for $200 less then posted?

Why do they want the restore cds? I don’t have any, I can give em a free copy of xp home, legal original. Can’t give em xp pro, because it isn’t really mine. But I can provide free re installation service, for the first time, after that it’ll cost you.

OSX samba change work group

August 25th, 2007 admin Comments off

All you have to do is edit /etc/smb.conf. Don’t want to search for a gui to do it. Don’t need a gui, easy to edit a file. Had to change the name of my laptop too, I don’t think samba likes ‘ in the name of the computers.

sudo nano /etc/smb.conf

I could of bought a wii today

August 24th, 2007 admin Comments off

I saw it in stock, won’t say where, because if you want one, you can get off your lazy ass, and go look for one. I wasn’t looking for one though, and don’t have $250. Trying to decide if I should sell the iBook my uncle gave me. He doesn’t care if I sell it. But its missing one key, because it won’t go on right. It’ll go on, but it’ll be sticking up on the bottom, the thing that holds it down broke or something. Not buying a new keyboard for it. Might be able to get $250-$300 out of my other laptop, won’t go under $250. The battery is almost new. Not sure how much I can get from my iBook. Probably won’t sell it, will sell the other laptop, I like osx better then linux, and windows. If I sell the iBook, I won’t be buying a wii. Rather have a mac mini, then a wii.

I’ll be buying leopard

August 20th, 2007 admin Comments off

Was just reading comments on the leaked version of leopard, the development version. Somebody said it works on their iBook G4 1.4 GHz, faster then mine, but who cares. I think its coming out in October. Now I see why OSX doesn’t require a serial number, they know you’ll probably buy the next release. Just need to sell my other laptop, so I can buy it. Might get 200 out of it.

OSX is a sexy thing

August 19th, 2007 admin Comments off

free music

The perfect song for the iBook, and OSX. Start using a mac, without two buttons, then on a PC laptop, you’ll click ctrl and the button, and nothing will happen.

OSX froze or messed up two times, once it froze, second time, I could see the mouse, but nothing else. Both happened when waking it up, think I fixed it, turn off the lock thing. Under security.

Tremulous mac version (Need a mouse to play.)
