Bought battery and 8 GB SDHC card for camera

July 8th, 2009 admin Comments off

Bought some cheap ass Lenmar DLC4L battery for my camera, 10 bucks compared to 40 bucks. Also bought Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card. Should get it on the 10th, if they ship it today and its from Seattle, then I’ll get it tomorrow probably. If the cheap ass battery I bought works good, then I’ll probably buy another one or two or three.

I want to get paid to surf the internet and reply to stuff

July 1st, 2009 admin Comments off

Seems like some of my recent posts got replies by customer service or somebody that works at the company mentioned. Somebody should pay me to sit on my bum and browse the internet and respond to stuff all day. I already sit on my bum all day.

Or if no one wants to hire me, maybe I’ll just continue mentioning different companies and getting replies from them, it is kind of entertaining. I can make a post full of shit, like last post, cause I have a bad memory. Then they might reply. Now I don’t need to use customer service for anything either, I can just post on my blog, it seems to work pretty good.

Or maybe somebody will pay me to not mention their company, that would work too.

Which computer to buy….

May 14th, 2009 admin Comments off

People like to ask me that question.

She wants a computer she can surf the internet on, download music and photos, burn CD’s or DVD’s, email, use excell and word on.

Computers that would work:

Mac Mini
Make sure you add 2 GB of memory, you can configure the cheapest one. Oh yeah but you’ll have to buy a monitor and stuff too…

Dell Inspiron 530s
I’d recommend getting one with a monitor. They have better specs. Vista is a memory hog from what I’ve heard. Make sure you get Intel Core 2 Duo for the processor.

Dell Popular Laptop Deals
Any of those would work, just make sure you get an Intel Core 2 duo processor and a 9 cell battery.

If you want to buy it locally, then Best Buy has some computers that will work too.

Dell – Inspiron Desktop with Intel® Coreâ„¢2 Duo Processor E7400

Gateway – Desktop with AMD Phenomâ„¢ Triple-Core Processor 8400

HP – Pavilion Desktop with AMD Phenomâ„¢ X4 9550 Quad-Core Processor

Compaq – Presario Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 4450e+ Dual-Core Processor

Dell – Inspiron Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 5000+ Dual-Core Processor

eMachines – Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 Dual-Core Processor 4050e

Pretty much any desktop will work… Just make sure it has at least 2 GB of ram, if buying a PC.

Bought Motorola s705 Stereo Bluetooth

May 3rd, 2009 admin Comments off

Said they only had one left, like the fact that you can use any headphones you want with it. But the headphones they come with will probably work fine for me, if not I’ll probably buy some really expensive in ear headphones. I think the iPod touch 2G has built in bluetooth, Apple said you’d be able to enable it in firmware 3.0. I’m waiting for the next iPod touch though. Might need an 8 GB microSDHC card soon. I like being an ass and buying the last one in stock, looks like they’ll have more on the 6th. Wonder if there’s anything else I want/don’t need that only has one left in stock. Hmm maybe I should just get the fasted 4 GB microSDHC card I can get… The cheap one I have is kind of slow. But works, so not a big deal. Might take all night though to copy all the music I selected to it.

Fuck it going to get iMac instead of mac mini

March 5th, 2009 admin Comments off

iMac is a better system then the mini, and well worth the extra amount. I’ll need a new desk if I want to use my other monitor though. Probably get the cheapest 24″ one, not sure though. Won’t be getting 8 GB of ram, that’s over $1,000 for just the ram… iMac’s are probably even harder then the mini to upgrade, I think I saw a guide on ifixit.com or something like that. But I won’t be opening it, maybe I’ll pay somebody in the future to upgrade it for me. Damn if you want faster processor you have to get more expensive one, wouldn’t mind a 3 GHz processor, don’t care about HD size. Maybe the $1,799 one then, almost 3 GHz, better video then the cheaper ones. Wait you can get $1,799 one with 3 GHz processor…

Update
Will probably order the $1,499 one from frys.com in May or June. I won’t be charged tax if I order from them…

Update
If you look at the design page for the iMac, you’ll notice it says “With iMac, details make all the difference. For example, because it’s made from a single sheet of aluminum, you won’t see any seams or screws except for a single compartment on the bottom that provides easy access to the memory slots.” Sweet so I can upgrade the ram in the future, when the price of 8 GB goes way down. Looked on ifixit.com, and you’ll see the memory compartment in step 4, the only step that matters to me.

Bought a new hard drive for mac mini

June 9th, 2008 admin Comments off

Just bought a new hard drive for my mac mini, bought it on ebay, free shipping and no tax. Bought a NEW Hitachi Travelstar 7K200 HTS722016K9SA00 Hard Drive. Argh I’m an idiot, should of bought it directly from buy.com, rather then their ebay store. Would of saved $10, if I payed by google checkout. Guess I’ll buy some crucial ram directly from buy.com, and save $10. Need the $10 in July, for the iPod touch 2.0 firmware. Oh yeah I also bought an Iron Man shirt on amazon.

Why does paypal and google charge $1.00? Now I only have $9.58, not enough for the update. Damn you paypal and google.

No more school for me

June 5th, 2008 admin Comments off

Today was my last day of school. Now I can sit on my ass and do nothing all day. Oh yeah I got a $50 Visa Gift Card, but I can’t access the site using Safari, because the site only works in IE. Thanks a lot you fucking cunts, now I have to open vmware, just to access your pathetic fucking website.

Update
Just bought a DRM free song off of amazon.com. Hmm I can order some condoms on amazon…

Update
Just ordered the following:
The Last Lecture
Kingston 2GB microSD Memory Card, Retail Package
Mobilelite USB 2.0 9-IN-1 Read

Update
To access giftcardbalance123.com in Safari type the following command in a terminal.

defaults write com.apple.Safari CustomUserAgent "\"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)\""

Or a better solution use TinkerTool, and enable the Develop menu in Safari, then you can choose the user agent, and change it back easily, without using the terminal.

Maybe I should upgrade the ram in my mac mini

January 19th, 2008 admin Comments off

Its only $48 from crucial for 2 GB of memory, the max my mini can have.

How to open the mac mini

They say you need two putty knifes, but probably possible with only one.
Don’t think we have any putty knives, my grandma might. Don’t have $48 either. The shipping is free, but after tax its $52.12. Still pretty cheap, cheaper then the memory in my other computer, and its not DDR2.
Just looked on apple’s site, if you configure the mac mini, they charge $150 if you want 2 GB of ram. I wouldn’t pay $150 for 2 GB of ram, that’s a rip off.

Update
Got it open without a putty knife, I did do a little damage to the bottom of the case. Don’t care though. It still works, and I don’t look at the bottom either, as it isn’t upside down all the time. The damage I caused to the case, actually made it so it will be easier to open in the future. Oh yeah and it still works, as I’m typing this from my mac.

Wireless SD card?

December 19th, 2007 admin Comments off

Pretty cool, you can get a SD card with wifi, so you can automatically send the pictures to your computer, and it can also automatically upload the pictures to your favorite social or photo networking site. Gallery is supported, which is what the Gallery on this site uses.

Eye-Fi

You can buy it at buy.com and other places.

Hmm it came out a while ago, I don’t pay attention anymore.

Beryl works on my laptop!

August 12th, 2007 admin Comments off

Didn’t know a geforce 2 card could handle beryl. Window decorations don’t work, not sure why. Still amazed that it works, the cube works too, without lag. Take that vista! Vista is a POS memory hog load of crap. Using yoper linux, if you’re wondering. Hmm now I need to get window decorations to work.

Update
Add Option “AddARGBGLXVisuals” “1″ to xorg.conf. Need to restart x to see if it works now. Didn’t work. Now to delete .beryl, think I read that a long time ago, it should remake the .beryl folder anyways.

Update
Yoper only has outdated packages, beryl and compiz merged. Would be a pain to compile the new compiz. The only solution is to use a non outdated distro. Not sure if I want to reinstall freespire, last time it crashed, and I couldn’t boot into it.

Update
Installing freespire again. Going to compile the latest version of ndiswrapper, the unstable one, which is what I did in yoper, and it seemed more stable then the stable one.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 vs Athlon 64 X2 6000+

August 5th, 2007 admin Comments off

Not sure if the Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, is worth $50 more then the Athlon 64 X2 6000+. Looking at Tom’s hardware, 50% games and 50% applications, the AMD processor has a smaller number, not by much though. Smaller number is better. Looking at lame and xvid, the difference isn’t enough for me to care. Considering my current computer with an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ can handle everything I do, I don’t think the intel processor is worth $50 more. None of the benchmarks that I looked at have a huge number difference, not enough for me to care, rather save $50. I’m not buying anything for a while anyways. Don’t know when I will either. Probably after another price drop. Since AMD’s new processors are coming out soon, intel’s processors price might drop. Then hopefully they still have the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and the price drops on that too, so then I can be cheap, and buy the cheapest processor. Or maybe I’ll buy one of AMD’s new processors.

Hmm wonder why Tom’s hardware bothers having a Windows Experience index – Memory Score, they all scored 5.9, because they all have the same memory.

Tom’s hardware doesn’t have benchmarks for the Intel Core 2 Duo E4400, want to see if its faster then my processor. It would be if I overclocked it, but I want to know if it is, without overclocking it. I’ve had a bad experience with overclocking, and therefore won’t do it again. Funny that people give it a bad review, because their to stupid to research the power saving on it. The multiplier is 10, it just goes down to 6 when under power save mode.

Little free memory in linux is a feature

August 3rd, 2007 admin Comments off

Just found this, which explains it. So it frees up memory when you need it basically. So I guess I don’t need 4 GB of ram. Using a 64bit distro, so it would see it all. Using lxde on desktop now too. I like how fast and lightweight it is. Oh yeah using xlock to lock the screen, can install it with apt-get install xlockmore.
Also created a .desktop file for it.

xlock.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=xlock
Comment=lock screen
Exec=xlock
Icon=xlock
Terminal=false
Type=Application

Put that .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/

I don’t have an icon called xlock though. I don’t care about an icon anyways. Except it shows the non found icon image in my application bar. But in the menu it shows no icon, just the name xlock.

Don’t digg this

August 2nd, 2007 admin Comments off

Damn it, somebody posted my ushare how to on digg. If it hits the front page, doesn’t look like it will, the site will be dead. Hmm just to think of it, ushare might work, now that I have memory free. But then I will know if godaddy offers the 250 GB of bandwidth they advertise. Maybe I should post more helpful how tos, so then I can put godaddy to the test.

Speed up kde

August 1st, 2007 admin Comments off

I’m now using openbox, which is a window manager. Faster then the one included with kde, I compiled the latest one on my desktop, and installed it with pacman on my laptop.

The easiest way to speed up linux, don’t use a shitty window manager. More ram available, was using to much of my 2 GB before. Didn’t try gnome with openbox. Think I started using kde because it seemed faster, wonder if gnome and openbox is faster then kde and openbox. Or better use rox and openbox. Don’t really need to free anymore memory on my desktop. I should try rox and openbox, on my laptop.

Screw firefox

July 29th, 2007 admin Comments off

On my laptop firefox kept freezing my computer, probably because I was playing music too. Now I’m using opera, which is super fast, doesn’t use as much memory either. Using mpd + gimmix to play music. Was using juk, but that probably uses to much memory too. Should use opera on my desktop too, as its super fast.

Update
While trying to install flash it said “ERROR: Opera is not supported.”. Solution is simply, don’t use the shitty installer.

cp libflashplayer.so flashplayer.xpt /usr/lib/opera/plugins

Flash seems to work, hasn’t crashed or anything yet.

Bad power supply or motherboard or both?

July 19th, 2007 admin Comments off

Not sure which is bad, don’t think its the memory, unless both sticks are bad, possible but unlikely. Going to buy a new power supply, probably need a new power supply anyways. Hopefully that’ll fix it, but I don’t know, I have no testing equipment. Blogmusik comes in handy though, since I don’t have an external hard drive enclosure. Planeshift loads to the login screen, then takes a very long time to load the game, after you login. To long for me, might work if I buy more ram. It would only go to the login screen if I’m not running kde, just an xterm basically. Also changed it to 16bit, for the colors, not sure if that matters.

Update
My mom is going to buy it on the way home from work, I’m going to pay her back. Not buying it at alpine, because they have a no return policy, so you’d have to bring your computer in and have them test it, then they’ll try and sell you something else. So if the power supply doesn’t fix my computer, we can take it back. If we can’t bring it back, then she won’t buy it. Well you can bring it back at alpine, and get an exchange, but not a refund. Could even buy it at newegg, and get a refund, I think. But I don’t want to wait, and the power supply is on sale. Hmm she said a mail in rebate, but it says $60 off instantly. The rebates it shows are old, and are for reference only. For the current price it says $60 off. Just looked on newegg, you save $10 at compusa. edit: she was looking at a different one, which they didn’t have in stock, so she got the $60 off one, which is the one I wanted.

Antec TruePower Trio 550 Watt ATX Internal Power Supply Unit (Price went backup, now cheaper on newegg.)
Antec TruePower Trio 550 Watt ATX Internal Power Supply Unit @ newegg

Hmm on the reviews on newegg I wonder if the other one they bought meets the exact advertised specs. Don’t really care about it meeting the exact specs, I don’t have a voltage meter anyways. So they should advertise it “11.43V – 12V”. Hmm four is lower then five, so they can’t round it up, darn.

The blank name who reviewed it, obviously an employee of Corsair, bought a Corsair 520. I wouldn’t buy it, because I don’t trust that brand, and it appears as though blank name employees are putting bad reviews on good name brands.

Update
My common sense tells me its the power supply, because I just tried pushing the button on the cd drive, when its on and it did nothing. Didn’t try unplugging the ide cable.

Update
My computer is working now. Bad power supply, my common sense was correct. Hmm I can’t even hear the power supply, my laptop is louder then my desktop. Wonder what noise I’m hearing, maybe the heat sink fan. Or maybe it is the power supply. Hmm I don’t know.

Gateway Solo 9550

June 24th, 2007 admin Comments off

Bought a new laptop, pretty much the same speed as my other laptop, maybe a little slower. Was $185 after shipping. The battery is dead though, but you can buy one on ebay for $50. Doesn’t have a wireless card, but you can get one of those for $25, not sure how much on ebay, thats on compusa.com. Don’t need one though, thats what my old wireless B game adapter is for, might buy one eventually, just not right away. Oh wait… It has a mini pci slot, meaning I might be able to plug my old wireless card into it! Sweet, now I don’t have to use the game adapter. Hmm maybe not, not sure if its mini pci. Don’t think it is, doesn’t pci have a connection on the bottom, and not some cable. Oh yeah and I think the attena is in the laptop screen. So I’d have to pull it out or something, and somehow put it into the other one. Oh yeah it also comes with xp pro, lots of pirates software, or they don’t include the cds for it, so that means OEM right? OEM version of Adobe CS2, and a whole bunch of other stuff. OEM versions of games too. Figured my old wireless card out, its a internal usb card. So only if the laptop has internal usb, and a place to put it, won’t be worth the trouble. I’ll just use my old wireless B game adapter.

Gateway Solo 9550

That seller also has a Gateway 600YG2 2.4ghz laptop, but I don’t have enough. Plus it has a dead battery too, so I don’t think its worth it. Its sold, didn’t take long since I first saw it, glad I got the other one. Removed the link, shouldn’t offer free advertising. I never should of provided any links. It would be free advertising, even know its sold, because you can click view other items, even know they don’t have any other items yet, but I’m sure they will. So you could just bookmark it and go back. Hmm maybe I should bookmark it, look for other bargains, and a laptop battery, and some ram.

Before upgrading the ram, I’m going to buy a battery, before buying a battery, I’m going to get money somehow… Probably do work for somebody, or just wait till I get a job. After I get a battery and more ram, then I will buy a wireless card, you can get a pcmcia linksys card from newegg for $20.

Lets see the total amount I’ll end up spending on this laptop….
$185 – laptop
$66 – new battery, the battery from the site Gateway links to for replacement parts has the battery for $119.
$25.29 – wireless card with shipping

Total: $276.29

Hmm… Well at least I’m not spending that much right away. It’ll take a lot of time. Yes you can buy a better laptop for around $270, but the battery will be used, and probably won’t be very good, and no warranty or anything on the battery. So you would end up spending more then that. So its still cheaper to buy this laptop, unless you have more money then me.

Not adding the memory in yet, as I don’t know if it has two 128 MB sticks, or one 256 MB stick. Most likely it has two 128 MB sticks. So it might be a little pricey to upgrade the ram.

The Gateway Solo 9550 meets the requirements for The Sims 2. Would have to play with the lowest settings. My old laptop couldn’t play The Sims 2, as it has built in video. Would probably have to upgrade the ram too.

The Sims 2 Requirements

Hmm wonder which are the real specs for this laptop, this or this. I rather it be the second one, as processors are easier to find for it. I guess there’s different models of the gateway solo 9550 . I’ll have to wait until I get it, and look in the bios, it should say the bus speed, and I can also run siw.

More about running The Sims 2 on it, I found this on google. At the end of the thread they said it worked, but they don’t say what. It could mean the driver installed and worked, or the driver installed and worked, and the game worked too. It probably means both the game and the driver worked, since thats what it was about. They didn’t say if the game was actually playable or anything though. Maybe on low settings. I don’t need to go searching for the nvidia driver, as gateway has the video card driver on their site. I tried searching nvidia’s site for the hell of it, and none of the drivers say they support the nvidia geforce 2 go card. I think one of the linux drivers says it does, but they don’t seem to have a windows driver on their site for it. So don’t bother going to nvidia for a nvidia geforce 2 go card, go to your laptop’s manufactures site. They should have the driver unless their a shitty brand. The sad thing is my broken $700 or was it $800 laptop couldn’t really play any games. It has some kind of sis on board video.

Memory test

June 18th, 2007 admin Comments off

Testing the memory on my computer, this time I’m going to let it finish. I think its freezing because of the ntfs-3g driver. So if the memory is good I’m going to make a linux partition on my big drive, and copy all the data from the ntfs partition to it. Then resize the linux partition. Took a long time to write this from my ds.

Update
Let it run for over two hours, no errors. In windows doing a defrag on my big drive, as ntfs-resize isn’t working, if it doesn’t work after this, then I don’t know.

Update
It froze while doing a defrag, now I know its not the ntfs-3g driver. Checking the drive in windows right now, then I’m going to check it with something else. I think it came with a cd I can use to check it, I don’t know where my ultimate boot cd is, I only have the one for windows, which takes a long time to load. I should probably check my main drive too. Its easy to find hiren’s boot cd, all you have to do is search for hiren on filemirrors.com.

Update
seatools froze while checking my first hard drive. And got some 22h error on my second drive. Not sure if thats a program error or what. Testing the first hard drive with some program on the hiren boot cd.

Getting pqi memory

June 1st, 2007 admin Comments off

Changed my mind once again, I’m getting a 1 GB stick of pqi, the exact same module that I have. Hopefully it’ll work in dual channel mode. Its $60 after shipping, might buy two more sticks, in the future. Even if it doesn’t run in dual channel, I should still notice a speed increase. Rather spend $60 then $140 or more. Just read a review on the same brand but faster ram, and they said it works in dual channel mode, not the x2 module either or whatever. So it should be able to.

pqi ram

Edit
Also getting a D-Link DWL-G730AP High Speed Wireless Pocket Router/AP – Retail. I like D-Link, I know their products work, as I use to have a wireless usb adapter, and my uncle has a cable modem by them, well he has my wireless usb adapter now, works fine on his mac. That thing can be powered by usb, which is sweet, now I don’t have plug it into the wall, as the 360 has usb ports. Now it can sit on top of the 360, instead of on the floor.
Getting it because my 11MB wireless adapter, isn’t that great, and my 54MB adapter, didn’t work last time I tried it. I can’t stream video very good with my 11MB adapter, music doesn’t stream that good either, but I think the music might be software related, using x360mediaserve for music. Oh yeah and about the bad reviews that say the signal is bad, it shouldn’t be a problem for me, I have a wrt54g with dd-wrt, and I raised the xmit power. Shouldn’t need to raise it anymore. Was going to buy another wrt54g but the newer ones are a pain in the ass to flash, so I said screw it, and got something you don’t have to flash.

Update
My grandma just ordered it, both of the above. Total price with shipping was $109.22. I bought two things, and saved $30.78. Two things is better then one thing, oh yeah I might be getting some more money tomorrow, doing more work for my grandma. I like pqi better then g.skill, because I never bought g.skill ram, and I have the exact same pqi ram in my computer, so it should work in dual channel. The ram has been working for a long time, probably over a year. Don’t really need PC3200 ram, cheaper to buy another PC2100 stick.

Sad newegg has it cheaper then D-Link, now thats a bargain.
see for yourself

Some people are morons

May 31st, 2007 admin Comments off

Quote from some idiot on newegg, a review.
“The performance of this memory was very good. When I added 2 more sticks of 512MB, my system freaked out. Narrowed the problem down to the dual channel 512MB sticks. Unfortunately, I needed 3GB of memory in dual channel so I RMA’d all of it.”

Quote from wikipedia.org:
“A matching pair needs to match: – Capacity (e.g. 1024 MiB) – Speed (e.g. PC5300) – Number of chips and sides (e.g. 2 sides with 4 chips on each side)”
Hmm good luck with trying to get 3GB in dual channel mode. Even if you added 3 sticks of 1 GB it probably wouldn’t work, at least not with my motherboard. On my motherboard dual channel will only be activated if I have either 2 sticks of the same ram or 4 sticks of the same ram. They have to be identical, meaning everything has to be the same, pretty much. Oh yeah their tech level is “somewhat high”, yeah right, you can’t even do research before doing something. If I made a review on newegg, I’d put my tech level at the lowest, so if I’m wrong, I don’t look like an idiot.
