Not sure about Buffalo Technology

June 2nd, 2008 admin Comments off

I recommended a LinkStation Live 500GB, because my uncle has an older module that works fine, and he’s had it for a long time. Well when we tried to set it up, it was dead out of the box, six beeps means the device can’t find the internal drive. He returned it and got a Western Digital MyBook, not sure if it works yet or not. He still hasn’t set it up.

Update
He tried to set the WD thing up, and it was dead. So he returned it and exchanged it for the buffalo once again, getting a different one, that works. He’s going to finish configuring it tonight. He also read more info about the WD, and he doesn’t like some of the features it has. Such as not being able to share mp3’s or music remotely. Also the first buffalo linkstation he got, he said it looked like it was used before, or refurbished or something. The WD had finger prints on it, so it was probably used or something too.

iTunes store can kiss my ass

September 25th, 2007 admin Comments off

Amazon just released a new mp3 download service, drm free, music, use with whatever the fuck you want. Songs are cheaper too. $0.89, instead of $0.99. Not sure if all the songs are that price, but I searched for weird al, and pink floyd, both have songs for $0.89. Hmm cool the mp3 downloader is for os x, and windows. I can probably convince my mom into using amazon instead of the iTunes store. You don’t have to use their mp3 downloader, its just nice to have the option.

Freenx

August 31st, 2007 admin Comments off

Getting a mac mini tomorrow, in store pickup, no dealing with morons. I need a way to use my other computer, without buying a kvm, or unplugging everything, and plugging it into the other one. Don’t want to spend any money, on a kvm if I don’t have to. Vnc kind of sucks, testing it local on the same computer, don’t really like it.

“NX transparently tunnels Linux multimedia channels. Not only does NX play KDE and Gnome system sounds, but you can listen to MP3s played on the server and local workstation simultaneously.”

Hmm wonder what will happen when running the client and server on the same machine.

http://www.nomachine.com/

Damn it takes a long time to compile, gentoo based distros don’t have binary packages, so you have to compile everything. The reason I shouldn’t of used sabayon linux.

Update
Won’t be using freenx, as its to much of a pain to configure. To bad I’m not using a binary distro, or one of the supported distros.

Update
Got it to work, by using the official packages on their site.

Stupidvideos.com trying to charge you to download videos

June 19th, 2007 admin Comments off

Guess what? You already have the flv file in your cache. Here’s an easy how to rip off stupidvideos.com, they are stupid as you can see by their name.

What you need:
Firefox
Cache viewer extension

Now to rip the fuck tard’s off.

After you install cache viewer, go to the video on stupidvideos.com.

I’m going to get this video.

After its done loading go click Tools | CacheViewer.
rip_stupidvideos.jpg

Now search cache viewer for flv, and then click Last fetched two times. If you scroll over in the text box, you can see the extension of the file, click each file, until you find the latest one with a flv extension.
rip_stupidvideos2.jpg

Then right click the video and save it.

This method will help with downloading music from blogmusik too, just search for mp3, or actually it might not have an extension, so search for blogmusik. To play the file in windows you need flv player or something. I’m not using windows, so I can’t help you there. For me I can play it in the media player that came with ubuntu, I can also convert it with ffmpeg. Mplayer might be able to play it too.

RipRoar VideoFree DVR Portable Media Player

December 13th, 2006 admin Comments off

“With RipRoar VideoFree, you can record your favorite TV shows right off the air for free, and take them with you — anywhere you please. Just like a DVR, you can program it to record up to 8 different weekly programs, and VideoFree will even change the channel automatically. The VideoFree plays your favorite videos, music and photos, too. ”

“Plays your favorite media

Playback your mpegs, MP3s, and jpegs; conversion software included”

Going to buy it, its only $48, and $0.97 shipping. I might not use it for recording t.v, as I have a t.v tuner, just want it mainly to watch mpegs on it. The price is usually $128. So I’d reckon a $80 discount is a bargain. Might use it so I can record more then one thing at the same time, or to record shows at night, so I don’t have to hear my computer all night. Might buy another secure digital stick, probably 2 GB or 4 GB. It already has 512 MB built in.

I’ll post something after I get it, it’ll be somewhat of a review, about how easy it is, if it works etc. Oh yeah walmart has good laptop deals too. Acer is a known brand, and so is Toshiba. I personally would buy this one, I’ve used intel core duo once, and I was impressed at the speed. When Jeff buys a laptop, I’ll highly recommend that one, 1 GB of ram too, with that sucker, good known brand too. It might not be intel core duo 2, but its still fast. The good thing is, by the time he can buy a laptop, it’ll be cheaper probably, and for that price something better. If it is cheaper by the time he can get it, then he’ll probably get that one. He doesn’t need super fast.

I wouldn’t recommend buying a brand thats not known, like Everex. It is tempting do to the price. But I still wouldn’t, cause it’ll probably break. Thats what happen to me, except mine is a balance digital laptop or broken laptop, its pretty much useless now, it’d cost to much to repair it. If you want a cheap laptop pay 100 bucks more for this acer one. Good known brand. Not some cheap brand, thats going to break.

Update

Total price after tax/shipping $53.18. Got tracking number, tracking number doesn’t work yet.

“After your order has shipped, it may take 24 to 48 hours for the carrier to update its tracking information.”

So tomorrow after school I’ll check it. Should get it by Thursday of next week, Thursday being the latest, Tuesday being the earliest.

Free FLV Converter

Update

How to convert video so xbox 360 can play it Just found it. Now my program will require vlc. You won’t need mplayer anymore.

Update

Doesn’t play on 360.

Update

Used wrong codec, in options change vcodec=msmpeg4v2 to vcodec=wmv2. Haven’t tried yet, waiting for all the wrong codec files to finish converting. The next release will be soon. It already supports any file type, and also multiple files. The name of the program will change to Vanvalkinburgh Video Converter.

I made a new program Vanvalkinburgh FLV Converter. Its basically a frontend for mencoder. Will probably change the name of it, after I make the next version. As it will support more then just .flv files.

Music For Me

October 21st, 2006 admin Comments off

Nice little program, it dumps all the songs from music for masses. So you don’t have to use mp3mymp3. You don’t even have to play the files, just wait for it to finish loading the song names. I would use The GodFather to rename the files.

Music for Masses

October 19th, 2006 admin Comments off

Been using it since yesterday. I’ve download over 100 MB. To lazy to use mp3mymp3 to record the sound, so their not protected. Need a program that reads the memory, and automatically saves them. Reading the memory for the name of the song and artist, then simply record it however it desires. Oh yeah the files sound fine to me. A lot of comments on digg, saying their crap. I can’t tell any difference, though I’m no good at telling differences between bitrates. Or any sound quality for that matter.

Scissor Sisters – Comfortably Numb

October 18th, 2006 admin Comments off

Hmm its almost an insult, to the original song. Its kind of funny. Can’t decide if I like her voice, or is it a guy with a high voice? I might have to delete it, it sounds weird. I like the original song better.

Allofmp3 link

Update

I don’t like any of her songs, including that one.

Update

Evanescence is a much better singer. Oh yeah I knew about them for a
