Damn SweetFM is nice

July 16th, 2009 admin Comments off

Think I knew you could stream music on last.fm, but don’t like using web browser to stream, SweetFM can stream radio stations from last.fm. It also has a nice export feature that I still haven’t tried. Oh yeah and its open source now. All those who paid for it got ripped off, you should ask for your money back. Oh yeah it’s mac only, to bad windows morons. Probably plenty of free/open source apps that do the same thing for linux… I rather buy music on amazon anyways, then I can run out of money faster, damn just bought a song. Didn’t listen to it on last.fm though.

To many ass’s in house to have music up, hear ass’s slamming doors. They should of delivered air port express before ass’s were here. Wonder how much a studio apartment is, wait I’d get kicked out. Better off getting a tent, and an extension cord, and camping in somebody’s back yard.

Bought Airport Express

July 15th, 2009 admin Comments off

Bough a airport express from amazon, shouldn’t be as loud as MSI Nettop 100. Should sell MSI Nettop 100, will keep the hard drive if I do that though. It was only $107 with one day shipping, amazon prime is nice. Could use it for wireless too, then sell trendnet wireless N router, already have linksys router running dd-wrt, keeping that, it is only wireless G though. Guess it could act as a wireless bridge, but going to hook it up to receiver for music.

Which computer to buy….

May 14th, 2009 admin Comments off

People like to ask me that question.

She wants a computer she can surf the internet on, download music and photos, burn CD’s or DVD’s, email, use excell and word on.

Computers that would work:

Mac Mini
Make sure you add 2 GB of memory, you can configure the cheapest one. Oh yeah but you’ll have to buy a monitor and stuff too…

Dell Inspiron 530s
I’d recommend getting one with a monitor. They have better specs. Vista is a memory hog from what I’ve heard. Make sure you get Intel Core 2 Duo for the processor.

Dell Popular Laptop Deals
Any of those would work, just make sure you get an Intel Core 2 duo processor and a 9 cell battery.

If you want to buy it locally, then Best Buy has some computers that will work too.

Dell – Inspiron Desktop with Intel® Coreâ„¢2 Duo Processor E7400

Gateway – Desktop with AMD Phenomâ„¢ Triple-Core Processor 8400

HP – Pavilion Desktop with AMD Phenomâ„¢ X4 9550 Quad-Core Processor

Compaq – Presario Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 4450e+ Dual-Core Processor

Dell – Inspiron Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 5000+ Dual-Core Processor

eMachines – Desktop with AMD Athlonâ„¢ X2 Dual-Core Processor 4050e

Pretty much any desktop will work… Just make sure it has at least 2 GB of ram, if buying a PC.

Easy way to copy iTunes music to Nokia E63

May 3rd, 2009 admin Comments off

doubletwist

Just use doubletwist, works in OS X and I think on windows. I have my phone connected by USB right now, might just say generic device if you put the micro SD card in a card reader. You could use Finder, but that might be a pain if you just want to copy a playlist, instead of all your music, all my music won’t fit on 4 GB microSDHC card anyways.

Update
Another way is to use Nokia Multimedia Transfer.

Bought Motorola s705 Stereo Bluetooth

May 3rd, 2009 admin Comments off

Said they only had one left, like the fact that you can use any headphones you want with it. But the headphones they come with will probably work fine for me, if not I’ll probably buy some really expensive in ear headphones. I think the iPod touch 2G has built in bluetooth, Apple said you’d be able to enable it in firmware 3.0. I’m waiting for the next iPod touch though. Might need an 8 GB microSDHC card soon. I like being an ass and buying the last one in stock, looks like they’ll have more on the 6th. Wonder if there’s anything else I want/don’t need that only has one left in stock. Hmm maybe I should just get the fasted 4 GB microSDHC card I can get… The cheap one I have is kind of slow. But works, so not a big deal. Might take all night though to copy all the music I selected to it.

Amod ABG 108 Bluetooth GPS Receiver works

May 3rd, 2009 admin Comments off

A while ago I bought a Amod ABG 108 Bluetooth GPS Receiver to use with my Nokia E63. Doesn’t work in basement, but wasn’t expecting it too, don’t need it in basement, probably don’t need it at all, but who cares. Works upstairs, but works the best outside or in a moving vehicle. Need to read manual on how to use built in Maps app. Can’t use Google Maps, as I don’t have internet plan… Hmm should buy a stereo blue-tooth headset, as my phone supports that, and it does work pretty good for music. Hmm wonder if the blue-tooth thing I have is stereo. Doubt it is, only one ear piece, think you need two for it to be true stereo. Its mainly for talking, got it to use with mac, but don’t really use it. Don’t care about the talking part, probably rather have blue-tooth without the talking part, don’t need to talk to anybody on my cell phone or in person.

Glad I didn’t buy the Nokia GPS Receiver. Rather pay less then $30, then $100 or more. Nokia sells it for $149.99. I guess since it has the word “Nokia” on it, it can be priced at $149.99.

Bought Airfoil

April 17th, 2009 admin Comments off

Just bought Airfoil for $25. There’s a linux version of Airfoil Speakers, which works in ubuntu. So now I can use iTunes instead of MPD for playing music through receiver. Playing videos doesn’t seem to work very good, there’s a 2 second delay, if you read their FAQ. Not a big deal. iTunes through receiver without airport express is good enough for me. Could output internet radio to it too, like pandora.com.

Oh yeah to get it to work in ubuntu, you need to install libmono-cli or something like that. Wait its “libmono2.0-cil” or “libmono1.0-cil”. I have both installed. Also have “libmono0″ installed. and a whole bunch of others, just use sudo aptitude install libmono2.0-cil. And hopefully it’ll install everything it needs..

airfoil

Update
To get airfoilspeakers to work in ubuntu run the following command:
sudo aptitude install libavahi1.0-cil libmono-winforms2.0-cil libmono-system-runtime2.0-cil

Are the cops here yet?

April 10th, 2009 admin Comments off

Better turn this music down, before the horny pigs come over here. At least ICP isn’t playing right now. haha. We had a neighbor that called em on my sister for blasting something outside. I’m sure she’d call em on me, if she heard ICP. But she’s to far away, so she can’t hear it, hopefully it isn’t that loud, I think I’d be deaf if it was that loud.

Had to buy VLC Remote App for iPod touch

April 9th, 2009 admin Comments off

The free version doesn’t let you browse, so I had to buy it for $0.99. Boxee is to buggy for me in ubuntu, so not going to bother with it anymore. Using MPD(music player daemon) for music playing, using a client called Theremin on Mac, and there’s a free App called MPoD for the iPod touch.

iTunes 8.1 isn’t faster for me

March 15th, 2009 admin Comments off

iTunes 8.1 likes to hang and takes a while to start music. I updated to it when it came out, good thing I have time machine, I restored iTunes, so now I’m running the older faster version of iTunes. All my music is stored on a NAS, mounted as a samba share, perhaps the new iTunes doesn’t like that. Apple should of said in change log, that it is slower for some users, and only recommend you update if you have new shuffle. You also need to restore iTunes Library, iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genuis.itdb in users/Music/iTunes. Found that from apple’s forum. Guess the only fix is to downgrade.

Stand Up to Cancer

September 5th, 2008 admin Comments off

Hmm its on for an hour commercial free, on multiple channels, including some free over the air channels. Don’t want to watch it, will be going to bed soon. I can’t donate, don’t have $25 in bank, I think that’s the minimum. Or do I have $25? To lazy to look, and $25 isn’t going to find a cure for cancer. Guess if you can’t find anything else to watch, then you can watch that. I’ll find something else to watch, in my head as I sleep.

Is this music supposed to be depressing? Argh I better go take my anti-depressant, and go to sleep.

Hmm I think you can donate whatever amount you want, but I’m still not donating, I’m an ass. If I get cancer, I won’t go to the doctor. Ahh the music went away, now I’m going to bed.

Not sure about Buffalo Technology

June 2nd, 2008 admin Comments off

I recommended a LinkStation Live 500GB, because my uncle has an older module that works fine, and he’s had it for a long time. Well when we tried to set it up, it was dead out of the box, six beeps means the device can’t find the internal drive. He returned it and got a Western Digital MyBook, not sure if it works yet or not. He still hasn’t set it up.

Update
He tried to set the WD thing up, and it was dead. So he returned it and exchanged it for the buffalo once again, getting a different one, that works. He’s going to finish configuring it tonight. He also read more info about the WD, and he doesn’t like some of the features it has. Such as not being able to share mp3’s or music remotely. Also the first buffalo linkstation he got, he said it looked like it was used before, or refurbished or something. The WD had finger prints on it, so it was probably used or something too.

OS X stream videos and music to the xbox 360 with fuppes

December 8th, 2007 admin 2 comments

Update
Download the fixed package here. That package should work.

Update 12/14/07
You can download a pkg installer here. It doesn’t contain my working config files though, you can find my working config files here. Fuppes will be installed into /opt/local/bin, so run /opt/local/bin/fuppes to start.

Fuppes is a free UPnP media server, which can stream to the xbox 360 and other devices too. No need to pay for some program called “connect360″. You can compile it yourself, or download the intel binary, sorry powerpc users, I didn’t cross compile.

Download Fuppes-SVN-549 intel binary OS X (Tested on my mac only, running leopard, no guarantee it will work. Use at your own risk.)

The source code has been edited, so you can go to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, which will rebuild your virtual folders, it already had the ability to update the database or rebuild the database by the web interface, I just added support to rebuild the virtual folders from the web interface.

The main reason was so I could add the following to a shell script:

cd /tmp && wget myip:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuild
cd /tmp && wget myip:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv

Which will obviously do the same thing as if you pointed your web browser there.

Download PresentationHandler.cpp (The only file I modified.)

If you make a cronjob to run the above commands, then you will most likely want to set a port number in fuppes.cfg, so it doesn’t change every time you restart it.

For those who can’t read my included readme file, I copied and pasted it here.

Install

Double click install, the install script will copy everything in bin/ to /usr/local/bin and everything in lib/ to /usr/local/lib.

Edit vfolder.cfg, and then copy it to ~/.fuppes, ~/.fuppes will be created the first time you run fuppes, or just do mkdir ~/.fuppes, vfolder.cfg isn’t required by all devices. If you don’t want to use the xbox 360 virtual folder configuration, then change

<vfolder_layout device="Xbox 360" enabled="true">

to

<vfolder_layout device="Xbox 360" enabled="false">

Then change

<vfolder_layout device="default" enabled="false">

to

<vfolder_layout device="default" enabled="true">

You don’t need to copy the included fuppes.cfg, as it will create one when you open it. It is already configured to be working with the xbox 360 though. You might need to put your local ip address in between

<interface></interface>

Also you will most likely need to change the shared objects, to whatever folders you want to share, you can add as many

<dir></dir>

as you want.

After you have it configured you can run it with fuppes, then type r, and then after that is done type v, if you need virtual folders. The source has been modified so you can go to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, which will rebuild the virtual folders, you need to do that after you update, or rebuild the database.

The script was modified so I could add to a shell script on my mythtv box, to automatically update the database, after it exports the show to the xvid format.

youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuild
youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv

Nothing will show in your browser when going to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, if you look in the terminal you will see that it is working, unless you don’t have a vfolders.cfg file in ~/.fuppes.

Uninstall

Double click uninstall, which will delete everything it installed, but it won’t delete your settings by fuppes, you can delete it manually by running in a terminal “rm -fr ~/.fuppes”

Almost have one big partition on external hard drive

September 29th, 2007 admin Comments off

I had to purchase Data Rescue 2, as I screwed up the partition on my external drive. I got all the data I wanted, could of got it all. Took a while to copy it to my other computer, by USB 2.0. I screwed up the first time, so it took twice as long. Copied everything but my downloads folder to my other computer, don’t have enough room, for the downloads folder on my other computer, had to delete files, on my other computer, just to get the data on it. Just finished making one big partition, now I need to copy all the data back to it, oh yeah just remembered, I have to disable journaling, so linux can write to it.

Update
My music doesn’t have ID3 tags, filenames, aren’t correct. Guess I’ll have to ask Jeff to bring his iPod over. Hmm videos are messed up too, good bye videos, don’t want to sort through em. Should open a text file, like a .php file, and see if its screwed up too. Yep, I wouldn’t recommend buying Data Rescue 2.

Good thing I haven’t deleted any important files off my other computer.

iTunes store can kiss my ass

September 25th, 2007 admin Comments off

Amazon just released a new mp3 download service, drm free, music, use with whatever the fuck you want. Songs are cheaper too. $0.89, instead of $0.99. Not sure if all the songs are that price, but I searched for weird al, and pink floyd, both have songs for $0.89. Hmm cool the mp3 downloader is for os x, and windows. I can probably convince my mom into using amazon instead of the iTunes store. You don’t have to use their mp3 downloader, its just nice to have the option.

Hello mac mini

September 1st, 2007 admin 1 comment

IMGP0463 IMGP0464 IMGP0465 IMGP0466

I got my mac mini today. Using vnc to use my other computer, because using freenx, my keyboard doesn’t work right. Wouldn’t recommend going to pig out in the park. Didn’t know how crowded it would be, but now I know, and I don’t ever plan on going there again. Figured out there’s an option in iTunes to tell it not to copy files to your iTunes folder, so if you add files manaully.

Need to turn album art work off too.

Cool I can watch tv in a floating window with mythfrontend. The iBook couldn’t really handle that. Damn it, mythfrontend still crashes when watching recorded shows with no commercials. There’s a newer mythfrontend build, but its for ppc only.

Vnc is slower then freenx. Just found this, which is the same problem I have. Funny it should be fixed, but it isn’t.
Found the solution here.

I’m liking the remote it came with. Easy way to pause and play the music. Now I need to download tremulous.

OSX pretty gimp?

August 20th, 2007 admin Comments off

Downloaded Gimpshop, which I thought was supposed to have a different interface, don’t care though. I like the regular gimp interface. You don’t want to see the gimp installed with fink, its to ugly to use.

Damn my music is cutting out, stupid virtual pc.

OSX is a sexy thing

August 19th, 2007 admin Comments off

free music

The perfect song for the iBook, and OSX. Start using a mac, without two buttons, then on a PC laptop, you’ll click ctrl and the button, and nothing will happen.

OSX froze or messed up two times, once it froze, second time, I could see the mouse, but nothing else. Both happened when waking it up, think I fixed it, turn off the lock thing. Under security.

Tremulous mac version (Need a mouse to play.)

Ahh so you can use any external hard drive with the xbox 360

July 31st, 2007 admin Comments off

Don’t believe everything you read online, I thought you couldn’t because some jackass said “This won’t work. Remember that the USB ports are read-only. This means the 360 cannot write anything to the drive; no game saves, no music, no downloaded content, etc.”, from here. I don’t think datel, would be selling an external hard drive for the 360, if it didn’t work. Oh yeah that 160 GB hard drive from datel is a rip off, I’d buy an external hard drive from newegg.com. I’m not running out of space anyways, so I don’t need it. Don’t have any money either. Newegg has a 320 GB external hard drive for $100 from a good brand.

Screw firefox

July 29th, 2007 admin Comments off

On my laptop firefox kept freezing my computer, probably because I was playing music too. Now I’m using opera, which is super fast, doesn’t use as much memory either. Using mpd + gimmix to play music. Was using juk, but that probably uses to much memory too. Should use opera on my desktop too, as its super fast.

Update
While trying to install flash it said “ERROR: Opera is not supported.”. Solution is simply, don’t use the shitty installer.

cp libflashplayer.so flashplayer.xpt /usr/lib/opera/plugins

Flash seems to work, hasn’t crashed or anything yet.
