Apple’s annual developers conference: Don’t expect a new iPhone – San Jose Mercury News

June 7th, 2009 admin Comments off

That’s because many observers don’t expect a new iPhone will be unveiled. The Cupertino company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference is about software, not gadgets. Some prognosticators say a new device – perhaps even a new family of iPhones – will be launched later this month or in July.

Good cause I don’t care about the iPhone. Not buying any phone that is locked down to a service, hell I don’t even need a cell phone or any phone for that matter. If I had to pay bill, I’d have no cell phone.

Might not have to buy OS X Snow Leopard, as I’ll eventually get an iMac. Doubt Snow leopard will be released immediately.

Funny how everyone is expecting hardware, does anyone realize the name of it is “World Wide Developer Conference”? Sounds like software, not hardware, at least to me.

A number of analysts expect Apple to hold a special event in coming weeks to launch a new family of iPhones, and to announce lower prices.

Ahh there you go iPhone humpers. Maybe they’ll lower price of iMac, still have to wait 2+ months, will want some money left in bank, and will be buying refurbished.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster speculates a device that is somewhat larger than the iPod Touch will be launched in the first quarter of next year.

That is what I want, then I won’t bother getting a new touch if they make a new one. I still have the first generation touch, waiting for third generation or tablet like mac.

ASUS Eee PC 901

May 17th, 2009 admin Comments off

Thinking about buying an ASUS Eee PC 901, or some other netbook with linux. Had aspire one, but that one had small SSD low ram, wasn’t worth it. Now there cheaper and better, Eee PC 901 even has a better battery then my aspire one had. Would be nice to have bigger screen then touch to browse web while watching tv, and a full featured browser. Maybe apple will release a new iPod touch with bigger screen… Probably not anytime soon. I think I rather buy a netbook from amazon, easy return policy, fast free two day shipping. Depends if ubuntu will run on this without any problems, need to look into that. Ubuntu netbook page. Hmm looks like the HP works pretty good on it. Wait that HP model that works, can’t even find it. But the 1000 that HP lists on site has a sound bug. Doesn’t look to hard to fix, HP mini has real HD and bigger screen then the Eee PC 901. Hmm strange their site says different then what amazon has… Pass on HP mini, want one that comes with 6 cell battery. Hmm maybe this aspire one.

Update
Bought Acer Aspire One AOD150-1165 10.1-Inch Sapphire Blue Netbook – 6 Cell Battery instead of ASUS Eee PC 901. Will put ubuntu on it, once I get it. Same price that I payed for old aspire one that had crappy SSD drive, this one has a real hard drive. Hmm maybe I should of bought that newegg DIY bundle instead, ahh well I can buy that next month. haha. Or send netbook back and buy it. Don’t want that bundle, rather get a quad core processor, if I get AMD. So I’d have to manually pick everything out. Ahh well I have 30 days to try netbook out, if I don’t like it I can send it back.

Update
If I get it and it doesn’t work, or ubuntu is to much of a pain to get working on it, I’m going to send it back to amazon and get refund, have 30 days. Also I’ve read that acer’s supports sucks, and to get an rma is a pain, also heard from somebody else that somebody they know has an acer and they break down a lot. Must of got lucky with last Aspire One, good thing I sold it on ebay.

Bought DSTTi

April 21st, 2009 admin Comments off

Just bought a DSTTi card from echostore.com. Probably could of got it cheaper somewhere else or different card for cheaper, but echo store probably has faster shipping. Also payed by paypal, which is nice. Got a 2 GB microsd card from them too. Dealextreme has the DSTTi for cheaper, but slow shipping, uncle ordered an R4 from them once, took like 2 weeks or something, don’t want to wait that long.

Update
Cancelled the order, and they cancelled it really fast. To paranoid about how long paypal takes to show the money they took out of my bank. I will definitely consider echostore.com in the future, very fast communication.

Got Sony SA-W2500

March 2nd, 2009 admin Comments off

Got my subwoofer today, seems to work fine. Haven’t messed with it much, had volume turned up and was playing battlefield bad company, and scared Tonka into my lap. Damn might not be able to use my subwoofer, scares dog. She doesn’t like loud sounds… Oh yeah it came with a cable, so didn’t need to order one from monoprice.com, but used the cable I bought from monoprice.com anyways.

$8 an hour for holding a sign

July 20th, 2008 admin 4 comments

Me and Vince went to Zips, and saw some guy holding a sign for Mor furniture. When we were leaving he asked how much he makes, for holding that sign. Well he makes $8 an hour, I don’t think I’d have to shave for that job. Would be an easy job, just stand there with a sign, bring some cash though, so you can buy some food, wait you probably can’t leave your post. That guy had some of his friends there though. So you need some friends, and then they can buy you some Zips, only downside is, you’ll be buying them Zips too, so you’re better off not eating, or buy the food, before you go to your post.

Hmm I wonder if anybody advertises a sign holding job online.

Some people are fucking morons

July 5th, 2008 admin Comments off

I wouldn’t line up for a 3G iPhone, I don’t want a phone locked to a shitty network like AT&T. I will always hate AT&T, for their past business with Bush.

Oh yeah and I’m a fucking moron too, just not the kind that stands in line a week early.

Oh yeah and some moron rang the door bell this morning, while I was still in bed. Guess nobody else was home, they should be glad I didn’t answer the door though, they would be running.

Update
I guess they are trying to “break a world record for most time spent waiting in line to buy something.”. Hmm I can break your world record, I’ll go line up for Mario Super Sluggers, it isn’t going to be out until Aug 25, 2008. So there! Anybody want to join me? Anybody want to pour water on my head, if I pass out? Might pass out from not drinking or eating anything for so long. Hmm might have to wear a diaper, so I don’t have to leave line! I don’t want to leave to pee, or shit! I’ll smell like flowers! Want a sniff?

Hmm to solve the not drinking and eating problem, somebody can hook an IV up to me, I’ve had an IV once or twice, not to bad. Anybody up to the task? Or I could bring lots of food and water or something else to drink.

Myspace home of spam

June 7th, 2008 admin Comments off

Or am I just a paranoid bastard? Either way, I just created it because somebody was asking me about it. Changed it to only allow my friends to contact me, which I have none, so nobody can contact me. Some person said, they were using their friends account. I don’t want to get murdered yet, or robbed of nothing, or anything, so I’ll pass. I didn’t create the account for dating. I don’t even know why I really created it, I guess to see how long it would take to get spam, not very long. Oh yeah isn’t that what craigslist is for?

Damn I hate the school, they put my fucking picture in the newspaper. For graduation. Now people I don’t know will contact try to find me, or contact me. Argh better move somewhere else. Better make sure nobody is looking for me on craigslist under missed connections. Nope good.

Hmm need to change my first and last name. I like facebook better, not as many people use it.

Looking for a job

May 16th, 2008 admin Comments off

Could be a man whore but most of the customers are men, if not all. So hell with that. I need to get an Apartment, I plan to have a chair in the living room, and a bed in my room. No internet, cable, phone, or anything else you don’t need. Put most of the money in the bank for savings, and live my life being stupid and lazy. Once I turn 21 the fridge will probably have alcohol in it. But until then it will have nothing in it. I’ll just drink water, to cheap to buy pop or anything else. Will buy a salad or something from a restaurant, so I don’t gain 100 pounds. For entertainment I’ll spend my time sleeping. Oh yeah I’m looking for a job that requires barely any knowledge what so ever. Oh yeah and also a job that you don’t have to look professional, as I’m lazy, and don’t want to look professional.

Found one job but said “ability to pass a criminal background check”. Don’t know if I can pass that. Oh yeah its a night job too, 9:30 pm to 6 AM.

Major Wii scene breakthrough

February 27th, 2008 admin Comments off

A major breakthrough has hit the Wii scene in the form of a program called Trucha Signer.

This program allows you to modify the contents of a Wii iso and then re-sign it with an electronic signature the Wii will accept. Basically, in theory you could put anything you wanted into a Wii iso (or take out, eg: Wii updates) and by using this tool to re-sign it the Wii will not reject the altered disk.

Also says that the author is adding virtual console support and Wii Channel support, so hopefully in the near future, assuming nintendo doesn’t fix the bug, people will be able to share the virtual console games they bought, with their friends. Hmm wonder if that program will work with wine.

Read me file

Trucha Signer 0.21 (xt5@ingenieria-inversa.cl)

This program let you extracts files, replace files, and
insert a "trucha signature" in a Wii disc partition, the
source data could be an ISO image or just be read straight
from a DVD drive (backup copies).

This program requieres the "common key" available in a
Keyset in the window registry (use the example Keyset
provide as a template and add keys on it).

Credits goes to the original team that show this hack in
the 24th Chaos Communication Congress: bushing, segher and
tmbinc.

Also thanks goes to marcan and nuke for the help and
support.

And the fucks goes to knobhead kids trolling around on IRC.

Fixed in 0.21:
-enabled replace files others than the ones starting in
 first H3 block

TODO:
-bugfix it
-add support for LG GDR drives (for read original medias)
-enable whole partition data replace
-verify TMDs and Tickets from the cert chain
-sign discs using custom private keys
-WAD support
-VC games/Channels support

OS X stream videos and music to the xbox 360 with fuppes

December 8th, 2007 admin 2 comments

Update
Download the fixed package here. That package should work.

Update 12/14/07
You can download a pkg installer here. It doesn’t contain my working config files though, you can find my working config files here. Fuppes will be installed into /opt/local/bin, so run /opt/local/bin/fuppes to start.

Fuppes is a free UPnP media server, which can stream to the xbox 360 and other devices too. No need to pay for some program called “connect360″. You can compile it yourself, or download the intel binary, sorry powerpc users, I didn’t cross compile.

Download Fuppes-SVN-549 intel binary OS X (Tested on my mac only, running leopard, no guarantee it will work. Use at your own risk.)

The source code has been edited, so you can go to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, which will rebuild your virtual folders, it already had the ability to update the database or rebuild the database by the web interface, I just added support to rebuild the virtual folders from the web interface.

The main reason was so I could add the following to a shell script:

cd /tmp && wget myip:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuild
cd /tmp && wget myip:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv

Which will obviously do the same thing as if you pointed your web browser there.

Download PresentationHandler.cpp (The only file I modified.)

If you make a cronjob to run the above commands, then you will most likely want to set a port number in fuppes.cfg, so it doesn’t change every time you restart it.

For those who can’t read my included readme file, I copied and pasted it here.

Install

Double click install, the install script will copy everything in bin/ to /usr/local/bin and everything in lib/ to /usr/local/lib.

Edit vfolder.cfg, and then copy it to ~/.fuppes, ~/.fuppes will be created the first time you run fuppes, or just do mkdir ~/.fuppes, vfolder.cfg isn’t required by all devices. If you don’t want to use the xbox 360 virtual folder configuration, then change

<vfolder_layout device="Xbox 360" enabled="true">

to

<vfolder_layout device="Xbox 360" enabled="false">

Then change

<vfolder_layout device="default" enabled="false">

to

<vfolder_layout device="default" enabled="true">

You don’t need to copy the included fuppes.cfg, as it will create one when you open it. It is already configured to be working with the xbox 360 though. You might need to put your local ip address in between

<interface></interface>

Also you will most likely need to change the shared objects, to whatever folders you want to share, you can add as many

<dir></dir>

as you want.

After you have it configured you can run it with fuppes, then type r, and then after that is done type v, if you need virtual folders. The source has been modified so you can go to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, which will rebuild the virtual folders, you need to do that after you update, or rebuild the database.

The script was modified so I could add to a shell script on my mythtv box, to automatically update the database, after it exports the show to the xvid format.

youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuild
youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv

Nothing will show in your browser when going to youipaddress:port/presentation/options.html?db=rebuildv, if you look in the terminal you will see that it is working, unless you don’t have a vfolders.cfg file in ~/.fuppes.

Uninstall

Double click uninstall, which will delete everything it installed, but it won’t delete your settings by fuppes, you can delete it manually by running in a terminal “rm -fr ~/.fuppes”

Finally done importing my Firefox passwords into Safari

October 28th, 2007 admin Comments off

I got OS X leopard yesterday, and my uncle wasn’t lying, when he said Safari is faster then firefox. I made an apple script to do most of the work for me, but not 100% automatic. Now I can mess around with the new features. I setup spaces, you can assign applications to the spaces to. I’ll upload the apple script eventually. Maybe in a week or two. Or maybe my uncle will post it on his blog. Hmm Gimp 2.4 is released. Wait only the 2.4 RC3 is available for OS X, and I already have RC3. Could compile it myself, but I don’t want to.

Easter Egg

Just think if you were on a network with thousands of pcs, sharing their computer… I would probably fall off my chair.

Pretty Box

Why didn’t I just pirate OS X Leopard?

They took the time to put that on their box, non like microsoft.

Install

By the time I was done taking a dump, it was almost done. I didn’t take a picture of it when it was almost done though, only took two pictures of it checking the dvd, one with the flash on, and the other off.

V2DPG

October 1st, 2007 admin Comments off

V2DPG is my first ever program written on a mac, well using xcode, and applescript, as I’m lazy. Basically its a frontend for dpgconv, now mac users can have an easy solution to converting videos to DPG, the format moonshell uses.

V2DPG page

Update
Hmm it might not be working anymore. Not sure why. But it did work, but now it doesn’t. Ahh wrong mplayer and mencoder binary. zip file updated, re download, should work now. Ok it does work, the install.tool doesn’t work.

Solution:

cd to/v2dpg #if its on your desktop, then Desktop/V2DPG_01
sudo cp mplayer /usr/bin
sudo cp mencoder /usr/bin
sudo cp mpeg_stat /usr/bin

Or copy mplayer, mencoder, and mpeg_stat, to your home folder, then run install.tool.

USB 3.0

September 22nd, 2007 admin Comments off

Firewire will be slower then USB 3.0. According to Extremetech, the speed for USB 3.0 will be 4.8 Gbits/s. But you won’t actually transfer at that speed, if you have used USB 2.0, then you know you never get 480 Mbits/s. At least I haven’t ever gotten 480 Mbits/s from USB. Same with SATA 2 hard drives, you don’t get 3 Gbits/s. If you go to the manufactures site of the hard drive, it’ll say the max speed is like 300 Mbits/s. Depending on the drive. So with USB 3.0, hopefully you’ll get around the advertised speed of USB 2.0. You probably won’t get 300 Mbits/s from a SATA 2 hard drive, unless you have a raid, but that probably wouldn’t be the stable speed. Reviews I’ve seen on newegg, say they get around 200 Mbits/s in a raid, for some SATA 2 hard drives.

“One example of their speed goals is to transfer a 27GB HD movie to a portable device in 70 seconds.”

27000 / 70 = 385 Mbits/s

Almost the advertised speed of USB 2.0.

“The same thing would take 15 minutes or more with HighSpeed USB (2.0).”

27000 / 900 = 30 Mbits/s

Freenx

August 31st, 2007 admin Comments off

Getting a mac mini tomorrow, in store pickup, no dealing with morons. I need a way to use my other computer, without buying a kvm, or unplugging everything, and plugging it into the other one. Don’t want to spend any money, on a kvm if I don’t have to. Vnc kind of sucks, testing it local on the same computer, don’t really like it.

“NX transparently tunnels Linux multimedia channels. Not only does NX play KDE and Gnome system sounds, but you can listen to MP3s played on the server and local workstation simultaneously.”

Hmm wonder what will happen when running the client and server on the same machine.

http://www.nomachine.com/

Damn it takes a long time to compile, gentoo based distros don’t have binary packages, so you have to compile everything. The reason I shouldn’t of used sabayon linux.

Update
Won’t be using freenx, as its to much of a pain to configure. To bad I’m not using a binary distro, or one of the supported distros.

Update
Got it to work, by using the official packages on their site.

Almost got a mac

August 16th, 2007 admin Comments off

If my uncle doesn’t change his mind, then I’m getting his old iBook tomorrow. Hmm now what should I do with the laptop I bought on ebay. Maybe Jeff will buy it, probably not though… He just payed $100 for ram, and a wireless card, for a computer he got free from work. The computer works fine now. Just needed new ram, and he wanted the wireless card, so he doesn’t have to run an ethernet cord from upstairs to down stairs. Guess he didn’t want to take the old one out of the other computer. Though the old one is 11B, while the new one is 108 MB G. Only 30 bucks, and it’ll be $10 after the rebate.

TRENDNet 108Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter, 802.11g, b

The card works fine, it does exactly what its supposed to do. Also finds another wireless access point from down stairs, that my laptop doesn’t find down stairs, it can find it up stairs sometimes.

Might give my old laptop to my sister, I’ll put xp on it for her, or I’ll let her use it at least. Hmm which sister to give or loan it to.

If I make a mac.vanvalkinburgh.org site, it won’t have anything to do with intel macs. Cause the iBook isn’t an intel mac, it has a ppc processor.

On the first command still. You can find the xdelta files here. You have to have the 3.4a iso already though.

Found that from the release post. They didn’t say what all those commands did, so I had no idea, that I could use them to make a new iso. Farther down in the thread it says what it does. You can download those files from some of the other mirrors too, just click the xdelta folder. Still takes some time though, just not as long as downloading the iso again. Unless you have a really slow hard drive, then it might not matter.

Update
Burning the iso right now.

Update
The upgrade uninstalled everything. Which really sucks, now I have to reinstall mythtv. Now I Know not to upgrade. I don’t think it deleted the database files, hopefully it didn’t. Don’t want to re setup mythtv too. I think the upgrade was worth it though, now opening tabs in firefox doesn’t have an annoying delay.

Battery life going up

August 2nd, 2007 admin Comments off

Its at 5%, 10+ minutes ago, it said five minutes left. Now it says 8 minutes and 30 seconds left, still at 5%. Was watching the simpsons, but clicked the wrong button, didn’t want to restart it. Hmm not sure how long it’ll last. Wonder if 5% means 50%. If thats the case, it lasts longer then 3 hours.

Update
it turned off, but the battery isn’t completely dead. Turned the stupid sleep thing on in the bios. It lasts the advertised 3 hours if not more. Somebody else bought a battery from the same place, number in stock was 7 when I saw it, then we bought one, so it went down to 6, and now its at 5. Guess they could of bought it on ebay though, if they use the same stock both places. If the person bought it from their site, and found the link on my site, then they got free advertising. They need a referral program.

Didn’t know I was supposed to add that for kooldock, don’t remember reading anything saying to do that. The dock seems more responsive now. Computer hasn’t crashed again either yet. I also add dhclient in my rc.local file, which resulted in a hanged process. Added it just incase the wifi didn’t get an ip. Still like opera better. Also switched back to the nvidia-96xx version, instead of the 71xx version.
