Bought USB Wireless Lan 802.11N from monoprice

July 2nd, 2009 admin Comments off

The USB adapter I have from newertech, seems to be causing my mac to freeze up. Not using their driver though (can’t remember why I switched), using official ralink driver. Not sure if its the driver or the card, or both. The one on monoprice comes with a driver CD, says it works with OS X, so maybe it has driver on CD, or website to download driver from, don’t see it on their site. Not going to switch back to the newertech driver, pretty sure it was unstable, and its outdated. Don’t think I’ll buy anything from newertech again, I paid around 40 bucks for the USB adapter from newertech.

I’ll be getting OS X Snow Leopard

June 8th, 2009 admin Comments off

It’ll only cost $29 for Leopard users. I would of payed more then $29 though. I’ll also be getting the 3.0 firmware for my touch on June 17th when it comes out. MacBook Pros got cheaper, and faster.

Apple’s annual developers conference: Don’t expect a new iPhone – San Jose Mercury News

June 7th, 2009 admin Comments off

That’s because many observers don’t expect a new iPhone will be unveiled. The Cupertino company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference is about software, not gadgets. Some prognosticators say a new device – perhaps even a new family of iPhones – will be launched later this month or in July.

Good cause I don’t care about the iPhone. Not buying any phone that is locked down to a service, hell I don’t even need a cell phone or any phone for that matter. If I had to pay bill, I’d have no cell phone.

Might not have to buy OS X Snow Leopard, as I’ll eventually get an iMac. Doubt Snow leopard will be released immediately.

Funny how everyone is expecting hardware, does anyone realize the name of it is “World Wide Developer Conference”? Sounds like software, not hardware, at least to me.

A number of analysts expect Apple to hold a special event in coming weeks to launch a new family of iPhones, and to announce lower prices.

Ahh there you go iPhone humpers. Maybe they’ll lower price of iMac, still have to wait 2+ months, will want some money left in bank, and will be buying refurbished.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster speculates a device that is somewhat larger than the iPod Touch will be launched in the first quarter of next year.

That is what I want, then I won’t bother getting a new touch if they make a new one. I still have the first generation touch, waiting for third generation or tablet like mac.

Easy way to copy iTunes music to Nokia E63

May 3rd, 2009 admin Comments off

doubletwist

Just use doubletwist, works in OS X and I think on windows. I have my phone connected by USB right now, might just say generic device if you put the micro SD card in a card reader. You could use Finder, but that might be a pain if you just want to copy a playlist, instead of all your music, all my music won’t fit on 4 GB microSDHC card anyways.

Update
Another way is to use Nokia Multimedia Transfer.

Upgraded Acer Aspire One

March 26th, 2009 admin 2 comments
From Inside Acer Aspire One

Upgraded the ram in my Acer Aspire One to 1 GB, voided the warranty doing so too. Used an old stick of ram from mac mini, upgraded that a long time ago. Just finally decided to upgrade Acer Aspire One. Touchpad no longer works, because I’m not skilled enough to connect it. Don’t care, can use external mouse. Need to replace SSD with a real hd or better SSD though. The SSD in it really sucks ass and slows it down, at least with OS X. Probably be fine in linux, but ideneb is more fun, I hear it’s against apple’s EULA, but I never read that, just clicked “accept”.

Update
Thought I got the touchpad hooked up right, might of killed the touchpad some how. Might have to buy a upper case/touchpad for aspire one on ebay. I’ll probably end up selling it after I fix it, will put default distro on it though. Might want to replace internal drive too before selling. Or maybe then I’ll keep it.

Update
Just going to sale each part by its self and as is. Changed my mind, going to sale the whole thing together as is.

Mac CrossOver Games

January 15th, 2009 admin 1 comment

I got CrossOver Games a while ago for free, they were giving it away for free, can’t remember why. Finally messed around with it some more, serious sam the first encounter works, and so does half life 2. Half live 2 isn’t very playable in parallels on my mac mini, but it is more playable in CrossOver Games. I have it set to run in window at 800×600 and all settings on low. Could run better, will try it on linux laptop if I ever get it.

Serious Sam doesn’t look right using opengl, so you have to go in game settings, and change it to direct 3d, running that in a window at 1024×768. Can’t run it at max resolution in direct 3d mode, just get a blank screen. Can run at max resolution using opengl, but the game doesn’t look right. So I just run it in a window. Could probably run at a higher resolution then 1024×768 if I wanted too. Just not full screen, don’t want to use resolution less then monitors native resolution in full screen.

City of Heroes Mac Beta

December 18th, 2008 admin Comments off

Got an email from the City of Heroes developers saying the open beta is ready. So downloaded the 40 MB file, which isn’t complete game, now its downloading around 2 GB of data. I don’t meet the video requirements, I highly doubt it’ll work, as it is using cider shit. Last game I tried, Spore creator creator that uses that same cider shit, didn’t work. Maybe if my mac mini was running windows it’d work, but fuck that. Not even sure if I should keep it downloading the 2.7 GB of data, as it probably won’t work anyways. Cancelled it, no point in waiting, since its very unlikely it’ll work anyways.

Logitech QuickCam Connect works with OS X

December 3rd, 2008 admin Comments off

At first I thought it wasn’t working because macam said “no camera”, but after downloading the latest cvs version it said my camera name. Then I noticed it was really dark and crappy looking, finally figured out I need a lamp turned on for it to look better. Though in parallels, the picture didn’t seem as dark, but it didn’t work very well under parallels. Maybe the next version of macam will make it work/look better.

Bought Logitech QuickCam Connect for $20

November 27th, 2008 admin Comments off

Just bought a Logitech QuickCam Connect for $20 at TheNerds.net. Was going to buy an IceCam 2 but after seeing an awful video on youtube of the quality I decided against it. Could of got it for about $15, but I rather pay $5 more for a better webcam. Oh yeah I used the coupon code BLKFRIDAY to get $10 off, and shipping is free Friday and Sunday. I got free shipping, though it isn’t Friday yet, where I live.

Oh yeah doing a google search shows that this webcam will work in OS X using the open source macam driver.

Oh yeah I could of got two webcams for $9.98 after $40 mail in rebate at Office Depot tomorrow, but that is more then I want to spend, and don’t want to deal with mail in rebates, rather spend $20 then $50. Hard to say if you’ll get the rebate or not, I know tigerdirect.com doesn’t like to full fill their mail in rebates, uncle experienced that long time ago. Blackfriday.info kind of sucks, I thought it was $9.98 that you’d be paying, they don’t mention the rebate on there. Somebody else I know is still getting that webcam, and the webcam on netbook doesn’t seem to work very good in skype, and would be nice to be able to use mac for video chatting. So I guess if the person I know gets the rebate, they got a better deal then me. But I only need one, so I don’t care.

Macs Averaging Twice the Price of PCs

August 7th, 2008 admin Comments off

What a useless false article, surprised google news links to it. I didn’t pay over $1,000 for my mac, I payed about $599. Pathetic article, don’t listen to morons, that don’t know shit. Mac’s may be expensive, but I’m glad that I won’t need to purchase another computer for sometime. The new windows vista OS, makes older computers useless, you will either have to stay with xp, or use linux, I’d personally be using linux on a normal pc. My mom’ s laptop can’t run windows vista, glad it can’t, that means I don’t have to be the one fixing it, though even if it could she probably wouldn’t upgrade it. She isn’t even done paying it off, and it can’t run the latest winblows OS.

Older ppc mac’s can run leopard, my uncles old iBook could run leopard, if I didn’t sell it. The person that bought it, might of put leopard on it. If the next version of OS X, still supports ppc macs, then that tells you something about apple. Apple likes to support their systems for a long time, non like microshit. Don’t forgot, microsoft has to lie to get people to like vista, they tell them that the OS their showing them is new, when its the crappy vista, they should mention how much the PC was, that is capable of running such a bloated OS. Well the price for new systems might of went down.

Just think about all the people who bought a windows computer a year before vista came out, and it can’t run vista. So their year old PC, can’t run the latest pathetic OS by microshit. Now do the world a favor, and stop buying windows PCS, buy a linux PC, or a mac. Or don’t buy a computer at all.

Oh yeah my uncle is still using a first generation macbook, and it runs leopard fine. Not having to buy a new computer as often, results in you saving money in the long run, and therefore you can buy a quality product, rather then a piece of shit. Ahh my uncle got his macbook in 2006. Now lets see how long he waits, until he buys a new one.

I got my mac mini almost a year ago, the anniversary is coming up in September.

No spore for me

June 12th, 2008 admin 2 comments

* Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher
* Intel Core Duo Processor
* 1024 MB RAM
* ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
* At least 4.7GB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for creations.*

My video card is the crappy intel gma 950, so no spore for me.

This game will not run on the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.

Hmm the windows version supports GMA 950, that’s bull shit. Guess I could use boot camp, and then play it in windows.

Time Machine works

April 24th, 2008 admin Comments off

I had to do a complete restore two times, might not of needed to the first time. Did a complete restore the first time because the boot camp thing said the drive had an error, so I rebooted repaired, and said everything was fine, but my mac has been unstable anyways, so I figured I would do a complete restore. The second time was to get rid of ubuntu, I figured ubuntu 8.04 would be good, like they say, so I didn’t try the live cd. Now I need another external hard drive, so I can have one has a backup drive, and another for data. Right now I have one external drive which has two partitions.

I need 65 dollars

April 15th, 2008 admin Comments off

The macupdate bundle has 10 programs, I’d probably use most of the programs too. Much better then the other bundle I saw on a different site.

Includes the following programs:
Hazel
Typinator
Art Text
DVDRemaster Pro
MenuCalendarClock
Sound Studio
Leap
BannerZest
StoryMill
Parallels Desktop

Guess I need to sell some stuff, could sell my DS, and the games. Would get more then 65 dollars probably. Not sure what else I have, that I can sell.

As typical in these bundle sales, some applications are “locked” until certain sales thresholds are met. Parallels, BannerZest and Sound Studio are currently in “locked” status. These applications will become available to all bundle buyers once sales goals are reached.

Quote from macrumors.

Update

The locked apps unlock at 5,000, 10,000 & 15,000 sales respectively per the receipt some people have received.

Guess I’ll wait a while. Its almost at 1,000.

Probably won’t get it because I rather get Mario Kart Wii.

Mac on a stick

March 15th, 2008 admin Comments off

Since I have nothing better to do, I’m going to attempt at putting Mac OS Classic on a usb thumb drive. Basically the emulator and the required files, the emulator Mini vMac, is available for os x, windows, and linux. So I should put both the mac and windows version on my thumb drive. Wonder if simcity classic will run in that.

Mac on a stick how to page

Update

Done looks like it works, that was easy and fast. Didn’t try the windows version of Mini Vmac yet though, not sure if it’ll work in wine. Can’t run simcity classic, not enough ram in emulator, have to use a different emulator.

My mom bought me Lux Delux

March 13th, 2008 admin Comments off

Lux Delux is a risk game, or should I say the best risk game. Only $24.95, and I think you get life time free updates, or at least for almost three years, because my uncle bought it almost three years ago, and his serial still works. Oh yeah Lux Delux is available for OS X, Windows, and linux.

Mail bounce feature

February 27th, 2008 admin Comments off

Never knew mail had a bounce feature, mail is included with OS X. Just right click any email in it, and click bounce. Hopefully the morons from some virtual learning crap, won’t email me anymore. Don’t need the email, as I’m not doing the virtual learning thing anymore, thought it was supposed to delete my account after inactivity for so long, maybe it hasn’t been long enough.
