Bought Airport Express

July 15th, 2009 admin Comments off

Bough a airport express from amazon, shouldn’t be as loud as MSI Nettop 100. Should sell MSI Nettop 100, will keep the hard drive if I do that though. It was only $107 with one day shipping, amazon prime is nice. Could use it for wireless too, then sell trendnet wireless N router, already have linksys router running dd-wrt, keeping that, it is only wireless G though. Guess it could act as a wireless bridge, but going to hook it up to receiver for music.

Got GE 28127FE2 Cell Fusionâ„¢ Cordless Phone

June 27th, 2009 admin Comments off

Was only 50 bucks at office depot, went to local store, 100 bucks online. Seems to work fine, still waiting for it to charge 16 hours. Finally setup my Linksys VOIP SPA2102 SIP ATA Adapter, using vitelity, they say you need to open ports, but I don’t. Behind two routers, to lazy to open ports on two routers. At first I could only make calls, then went to support thing on their site, and did their setup wizard, and it changed some settings on their server or something. Cool I can still send txt messages using Phone Plugins on mac while its connected to the cell fusion thing. That program is only 10 bucks, I already bought it, never tried the FoneLink program, my phone isn’t on the supported phones list for it, but it is for Phone Plugins… And Phone Plugins is a lot cheaper. Hmm doesn’t seem to always work while its connected to cell fusion, so have to disable bluetooth and then enable it.

Wi-Ex zBoost YX300

June 26th, 2009 admin Comments off

Bought a zBoost YX300 cell phone booster on amazon. Seems to work sort of, I can talk on the phone without loosing signal if I move. I can browse t-zones sort of, kind of slow. Doesn’t really give me anymore bars, before I had one bar, but would constantly loose it. Seems to stay connected better now. Sometimes my phone says no bars, but it works.. So perhaps my phone is a dumbass, and doesn’t know if it has any bars or not. Don’t think I’ll send it back, seems to work good enough. Probably won’t really increase battery. It was only like 60 bucks on amazon. Would be funny if I sent it back though, I had to spit on suction cup things to get it to stick to window, haha. Oh yeah I’m not very far from the antenna that goes to cell phone… Sending text messages is instant now, even know it says I have zero bars.

Update
Think I got it working better now, put antenna on desk, where I’m at most of the day, if I go to tv, I can bring antenna with me. Don’t think I’m even a foot away now from it. Hmm think I get how it works now… Think your phone has to have at least one bar for it to work. cause phone works better still when sitting on desk, always get one or more bars while its just sitting on desk. So I guess it does give me more bars, when its on desk. Guess speaker phone works, haha.

There’s the antenna. And that is old cell phone.

So signal is pretty good while sitting on desk… Pick it up and it goes down to one or none. Hmm wonder why it doesn’t work on top of desk. guess it has to be right by it or something, haha. No big deal for me.

Pic of home screen with good signal. Wonder if you can get longer cable with antenna… or maybe a better antenna too. Guess I’ll find out after I trip on it and break it.

Update
Found this review, looks like they get five stars when holding their phone, wtf I can’t one or no bars when holding phone. Phone has to be sitting right next to antenna, maybe its because I’m more then 10 feet away. Pretty sure when I have it 10 feet or less away from base, I still don’t get signal when holding phone, at least not at desk. Maybe my thing is crap and doesn’t work right, to lazy to send it back. Or maybe my $200 cell phone is a dumbass. Going to try $80 cell phone. And then if that doesn’t work I’m going to get tape measurer.

Wait I should try calling somebody, hmm its 11:21 pm, I’ll try calling VOIP number. Maybe it only works for calls, which sucks if that’s the case. Other phone does same thing, if you put it right by it or under it, you’ll get full signal, now to call VOIP number after I look it up.

No green light blinking.. Damn it guess I need tape measurer.

Its about 10 feet away from fucking base thing, and desk is about 6 feet from antenna, but even right by the antenna it doesn’t pick up call, might pick up call if I put phone right by or under the fucking antenna.

These reviews must be written by the people who made it or something. Rebooting my phone 20+ times doesn’t work either.

Are you supposed to get “Network busy” with this thing? Haha, light still not blinking green. Changing settings on phone doesn’t seem to be helping either. The thing doesn’t blink green when it is handling a call, at least not for me. If I put phone on antenna and make a call, it doesn’t blink green, full signal then. So if you want to tape the antenna to your phone, this thing should work great for you. And putting it more then 10 feet away works. To bad I can’t hold phone.

Maybe there is interference, so maybe I should unplug routers, turn mac off, turn iPod touch off, turn blue-tooth off on phone, fuck that.

Looks like I need to send it back, either get money back or replacement. Hmm wonder if I can get new antenna only. I should email support.

Emailed support, now to wait and see what they say… Well amazon doesn’t offer an exchange program anyways… So I will have to return it and wait, then re order it. Won’t re order if it the price goes up though. Should wait for them to email me first though.

Update
Turned it off for a short time, it does blink green when it uses it, but will only use it if phone is under it, not touching it. When at desk it doesn’t use it. Ahh if you put it side ways you might be able to go farther then a foot. But only one bar according to phone. From the pic on that review they don’t have there’s on its side, strange. Sitting right by it and holding up to hear doesn’t use it. Think a foot would be the max distance if that, might be less then that. If you use speaker phone or a blue tooth thing it should work fine. Don’t move phone though. Wonder if there’s a way to reset it or something. Probably not. Oh yeah the window I put it in, my phone gets a full signal. So that isn’t the problem.

Nice reviews on newegg… One says antenna needs to be six feet away from base, and another says it needs to be as far as possible, one says they can be 20 feet away, another says less then a foot. So I guess less then a foot like I thought is right. Not sure how far the antenna should be, seems to work right on desk. So if I don’t want to use speaker phone, I’ll have to be right by antenna, almost touching it with my hear to phone, and phone to antenna. Oh yeah and its deactivated on newegg, maybe they are making new on that works.

It doesn’t always blink green either, guess only at random.

Maybe I’ll just use speaker phone or one of my bluetooth things that I don’t use. Hmm it would be cheaper to put phone in window and use bluetooth, perhaps that’s what I’ll do, or better do nothing.

Nokia Ovi Store Launch Is A Complete Disaster – washingtonpost.com

May 26th, 2009 admin Comments off

Nice guess the Ovi store opened today but doesn’t work. Installing the app on my phone, according to their blog, people using the app on their phone can connect. I get blank page in browser. Hmm maybe the store works in firefox, maybe it isn’t compatible with Safari, that’s nice if that’s the case… Nice nokia, your store doesn’t work in safari. Real nice. Can’t use it on phone, because it can’t find my router, says “No wlan found”. Whatever. Ahh it works on phone now… After installing the store app you have to reboot. Guess phone wasn’t started all the way yet.

Hmm the washigntonpost article says you can’t login with existing account, I can.

Works in Safari after clearing cache.

Looks like a useless store, at least for me. There’s no content for Nokia E63.

Nokia Ovi Store Launch Is A Complete Disaster – washingtonpost.com

Update
I clicked the pocket express banner thing on the store homepage, and says “Sorry, this item is no longer available.”. Haha this store blows. I can only look at stuff if I’m not logged in, otherwise it hides everything, because nothing is compatible with my Nokia E63.

Update
It works now. I can actually see apps when logged in now. Haven’t downloaded anything yet.

Put D-Link 615 rev C1 firmware on trendnet tew-652brp

April 27th, 2009 admin Comments off

Sister has been having problems staying connected, not sure why. Funny now DHCP reservations works, with the latest trendnet firmware it wasn’t working. The D-Link firmware has a lot more features anyways. Oh yeah my phone can connect to it again, wasn’t connecting to trendnet router with trendnet firmware, it use to, but all the sudden stopped. All you need to do is use a hex editor and modify the last line of the D-Link firmware to match the last line of the trendnet’s firmware. I used HexEdit, free mac hex editor.

Basically you need to change “AP81-AR9130-RT-070614-02″ in D-Link firmware to “AP81-AR9130-RT-080609-05″.

Got Trendnet router today

April 23rd, 2009 admin Comments off

hni_0043

Got my Trendnet TEW-652BRP today. Haven’t had any problems with it yet, updated the firmware, which adds the ability to set static IPS to different MAC addresses. Well had one problem, put my mac’s MAC address in wrong, so I had no internet, but setting the IP manually let me get to router’s config, took a while to figure that out. Thought I put in everything right. Thought MAC address filtering made it so people couldn’t access router at all, it should disconnect not allowed MAC addresses. Not sure if all routers let you get to config page if the MAC isn’t allowed, maybe its a setting, you can probably disable router page from all wireless users. Oh yeah it seems to be smaller then the D-Link router it replaced, not much smaller though. Oh yeah you have to use firefox to update firmware, didn’t work in Safari, didn’t even seem to send the firmware using Safari, maybe it works in older Safari. Still using Safari 4 beta. The login seems to use some javascript encryption thing too, so don’t bother telling 1password to remember password, won’t work. Hmm guess you can’t tell it to not allow wireless clients to access router config. Pretty sure you can with DD-WRT, don’t think that works with this router, don’t care. Trendnet’s firmware seems to be stable, at least so far. Oh yeah the firmware tells you the router uptime too, just like DD-WRT, D-Link didn’t say that.

Damn sister’s computer is dusty on the inside

April 19th, 2009 admin Comments off

My sister said her computer is crashing a lot, thinking it might of been all the dust in there. Used vacuum cleaner to get it all out, or at least all the chunks out. Should of asked when is it freezing, like just browsing internet, or playing a game etc. Its still running a virus scan, and it hasn’t crashed for me yet. After the scan I’ll give it back to her. Also finally plugged in the other wireless N card I bought a long time ago into her computer, she had old wireless G card in there, that only connects to router because I changed the xmit power or whatever. I think that card got messed up when I was trying to get it to work in linux along time ago. I don’t have any use for this extra wireless N card I bought, when I bought them they were on sale for $20, now around $30, so I bought two. That is what I was going to do anyways, give other one to sister. Now all computers are on D-Link router, it’ll be funny if when she plays world of warcraft if it crashes shitty D-Link router, might have to reboot boot is daily till I get new trendnet wireless N router.

Just bought Trendnet TEW-652BRP Wireless N Home Router

April 17th, 2009 admin Comments off

Damn D-Link 615 router isn’t very stable. Sometimes iPod touch will disconnect mac from internet. Just rebooted it and changed the channel, now Airfoil seems to be working right. I got it for $29.99 from compusa.com. Hmm wonder if this router lets you assign IPs to different mac addresses, like D-Link. Hopefully it does. Read you can put D-Link firmware on it.

Update
Not on sale anymore. Good thing I’m on their mailing list, signed up for it sometime ago, probably when entering a sweepstake from em.

Backblaze or transmission?

April 16th, 2009 admin Comments off

Didn’t think backblaze would cause 360 to lag online when limited to under 40 kb/s. Transmission is idle, not uploading anything, just open. Could be the router slowing down. Doesn’t really look like comcast is up to the task of backing up all my data over the internet. Maybe if they ever provide better speeds it will be.

Got Nintendo DSi

April 7th, 2009 admin Comments off

Got my Nintendo DSi that I pre ordered from amazon today. The screen is bigger and brighter and looks better, just put a game in, and you should notice right away. It connects to my router, can’t play any games online though, cause router isn’t setup as WEP. Though I could go outside or something and borrow somebody’s internet if I really wanted too. The browser works alright, don’t really need it, iPod touch’s browser is better. I didn’t use any of my free 1,000 points yet. Oh yeah and my M3 Simply doesn’t work with it, it just says no game inserted.

Click read the rest of this entry to see pics taken with the DSi’s camera and comparison pics.

Nintendo DSi in stores now…

April 6th, 2009 admin Comments off

No shit Nintendo, you should of emailed me that yesterday when it came out. Wait they don’t work Sunday, but release new product on Sunday… Oh yeah mine shipped earlier today from amazon, should get it tomorrow. No need to pay for one day shipping if you live close to Seattle.

The Nintendo DSi site has more stuff on it now. Cool free 1,000 credits, if I connect it before October 5th 2009.

*Important Note* If you wish to play online games with the Nintendo DSi, you need to have your router set to WEP security.

Fuck you Nintendo. Maybe I’ll just send it back or resale on ebay, still can’t play online, unless I want to disable or downgrade security, might as well just disable it. That quote is from support site. So I guess I can access the shop channel and stuff, but can’t play any games online. Did these things sell out yet? Cause then I can make a profit on ebay from it. Ahh well I’ll just keep it, and not play any games online.

No WPA for normal DS games because of backwards compatibility.

From a comment here. So I guess Nintendo DSi only games maybe, if there are ever any. Then Nintendo will need to update support site, as it says “games”. So I guess any online games in shop channel can’t be played online, according to Nintendo. Probably aren’t very many games in shop channel yet anyways.

M3 Simply probably doesn’t work anymore, but I can use the DS Download Play service to try new games, get the Nintendo channel for Wii and it has demos for the DS, that it can send to DS systems, and DSi.

Stupid D-Link DIR-615

March 21st, 2009 admin Comments off

Damn thing crashed, it can’t handle to much local network traffic, otherwise it’ll crap out. At least revision A. Mom’s computer was copying an almost 4 GB file to it from linkstation, and then I was trying to play on xbox live, and got started lagging like hell, and then disconnected, went upstairs and the file transfer crapped out too. Had to reboot the POS. Won’t be buying any $40 wireless N routers again. Wouldn’t buy a linksys as their support sucks ass, if you ever have to deal with em. I had a wireless G game adapter made by em, updated firmware, and then it no longer worked, their shitty update broke it. And even if I sent it back under warranty, I doubt I’d have any luck getting a working one. The apple airport extreme might be the best wireless N router.

No point in buying a new router yet. Will just wait for her computer to finish copying the file before trying to do anything that uses a lot of bandwidth.

Boxee kicks ass

March 18th, 2009 admin 3 comments
From Boxee Setup
From Boxee Setup

Put xubuntu and boxee on my MSI Wind Nettop 100, plays 720p perfectly fine, at least everything I tried, tv doesn’t do 1080p, does 1080i though. There’s a bug in boxee, it crashes sometimes when playing an audio file, really annoying. Oh yeah put the boxee remote app on iPod touch, and changed wireless N router to mixed mode, so I can use iPod touch with boxee. Also bought a D-Link gigabyte switch, so I can have linkstation and MSI Wind Nettop 100 connected by gigabyte speeds. That came yesterday too, and works fine. It has a rebate according to amazon, but to lazy to fill that out, don’t care about rebate.

Pre ordered Nintendo DSi Black

February 19th, 2009 admin Comments off

Just pre ordered the Nintendo DSi black from amazon.com, the link is to the blue one, but you can select black on the page. Funny how the page says:

As you may know, the Nintendo DSi is in great demand, and there are shortages of this product across the U.S. In an effort to provide as many customers as possible with the opportunity to purchase a Nintendo DSi, we are limiting the total number of Nintendo DSi units that can be purchased. As a result, each household may only purchase three Nintendo DSi units. See additional policy details here.

I guess amazon is psychic, though I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the case. It might sell out too, just like the Wii did for a long time, you can get that easily now though. Maybe I should of pre ordered three, so I could sell the other two on ebay, and maybe make a profit.

Hopefully the DSi supports WPA… Non like the DS. Not changing security on router, just so DS can connect, and won’t do it for DSi either.

Comcast Spoiling for Fight With FCC

July 28th, 2008 admin Comments off

Hmm I wonder if comcast, will increase the price of their internet. Hmm we might have to switch to dial up, if it goes over $50 a month. Comcast already has a hidden bandwidth limit, I suppose they might have different plans soon, with different bandwidth limits, be bad news for those who use peer to peer applications. Or rapidshare.

Hmm the uptime for my computer is over 1 day, and only 3.80 GB gigs of in bandwidth, and 4.95 gigs of out bandwidth. Oh yeah iStat menus tells me all that info.

That’s only for my computer though, not sure what the total bandwidth used is.

Ahh for this month so far, the router says 117819 MB, which is about 115 GB for incoming bandwidth. Outing bandwidth is 24352 MB, which is about 24 GB.

Looks like we would be paying a lot of money, if they start doing that.

In June the incoming bandwidth was 59946 MB, which is about 58 GB. Outgoing was 5435 MB, which is around 5 GB.

Got to love the custom DD-WRT firmware.

OpenDNS Blog » OpenDNS – Keeping you safe day after day

July 26th, 2008 admin Comments off

I’m very proud to announce that we are one of the only DNS vendor / service providers that was not vulnerable when this issue was first discovered by Dan. During Dan’s testing he confirmed and we later confirmed that our DNS implementation is not susceptible to the attack that was discovered. In other words, if you used OpenDNS then you were already protected long before this attack was even discovered.

Not only is opendns fast, but the dns flaw, doesn’t affect me or anybody else using opendns. I’ve been using opendns for a long time, probably a year or more. I’m not sure how long, but it works fine. Not sure why anybody would continue using their ISP’s dns servers, considering how opendns is faster, more secure, and you can setup content filtering too, and best of all its 100% free.

Oh yeah and its really easy to use opendns, on your router, set your dns to the IP address’s opendns’s site shows. On my linksys router, all I had to do was set static dns 1 and 2 to the IP address’s they list on their site.

Forgot to say they also have Phishing Protection. Which is nice, just incase somebody else at my house, like my mom, gets tricked, or somebody tries to trick her, or they try to trick me.

Wii connection error 52230

February 16th, 2008 admin 1 comment

My uncle just got his first wii, he accidentally ordered two on ebay. I remember getting that error when I first tried to connect to the internet with my wii. The first thing is obviously to go to nintendo.com and search for it, yet there “help” doesn’t help or fix anything.

The solution for me and my uncle was to set a static ip address on the wii, also set a static dns server, and change the mtu to 1400. Might have something to do with the ddwrt firmware. For the dns server, you can probably put in your routers ip address, 192.168.1.1, for me. Then assign it an ip that isn’t in use like 192.168.1.126. The gateway is the address of the router, so for me 192.168.1.1.

Feel Good TV on Miro

December 8th, 2007 admin Comments off

I like the channel Feel Good TV on Miro, but the only problem is the shows download by bittorrent. One episode downloaded after many tries. Then I tried to download another and it didn’t work, so I did a search on google, and found this. Then one of the comments mentioned your-freedom.net, which you can use for free 6 hours a day, 18 hours a week. I setup openvpn, I followed their instructions. Then I was wondering what would happen if I start downloading it and then stop the openvnp program, well then the download speed went down, and then it went up, and then it finished downloading. So I tried it again, and it didn’t work. I hate comcast. Maybe you have to let it download a certain amount through your-freedom, or I was just lucky. They don’t care if you use their service for file sharing, as long as you don’t use a US server to do so, or any other servers that say don’t use it for that. To bad you can’t configure a proxy with miro, that’s why you have to use openvpn. Could always use a different bittorrent program.

You might be able to use anoNet as a proxy for bittorrent, as it uses openvpn.

Hmm using azarus you can make it use a proxy for only the tracker, doing a speed test with encryption and the tracker proxy might of fixed it.
Use tor as a proxy for bittorrent (Says how to use it only for the tracker, and for downloading and uploading.)

You can get the classic interface in the latest version of azureus by going to options and clicking Interface and then start and then clicking show by display azureus UI chooser. Might have to be in advance mode to see it.

Download Feeel Good TV episode 20 (Not newest but funny.)

Update
Using a tor proxy for the tracker only and encryption seems to have fixed the downloading problem. I don’t think I can seed or upload though. But at least I can download at 500+ KB.

Encrypt bittorrent traffic
Use tor as a proxy for only tracker communication

Don’t upgrade DD-WRT to v24 RC5

November 23rd, 2007 admin Comments off

Settings from DD-WRT v23 SP2 aren’t compatible with v24 RC5, good thing I backed up my settings. Don’t think I’ll upgrade to v24 when its stable, as I don’t want to re enter all my settings. If you upgrade make sure you tell the firmware upgrade thing to reset to the default settings. Then you will have to re enter your settings, I tried restoring the settings on v24, but that didn’t work, I had to reset the router, and then downgrade to v23 SP2.

Why routers are a good thing

July 28th, 2007 admin Comments off

1. You don’t have to use a network bridge, that is if you’re running windows xp. Linux probably wouldn’t have any problems doing a simple task like that.
2. You don’t have to email me for support.

Since I don’t use windows, its a real pain helping anybody with windows. Once my grandpa upgrades to vista, well i can’t help him. You’ll have to email support@microsoft.com. My email doesn’t have support anywhere in it. You would only have to use a network bridge with a router, is if you didn’t connect your internet directly to the router, which would be a stupid thing to do.
