Bought a D-Link DIR-615 for $39.99, at buy.com, that is the price shipped, free shipping, and no tax. Thinking maybe I should of bought the DIR-625, but I don’t really care, they all have mixed reviews, hard to say, if its because the person setting it up, is a complete dumbass, or they got a bad product. The other computers in the house won’t be upgraded, they aren’t mine, bought a Newer Technology MAXPower 802.11n/g/b USB Adapter for my mac, from macsales.com. That USB adapter was more then the router. Don’t think anything has been shipped yet, not in a big hurry. Hopefully it’ll be faster to copy data over wifi to linkstation. Keeping old router hooked up as it is, not replacing it. We’ll have two routers, I’ll be the only one connected to the N router, probably should put it in N mode only.
Oh yeah and the linksys wireless N routers, have mixed reviews to, and they are more expensive, so I’ll take my chance with D-Link. Oh yeah and I don’t want to spend over $100, if I did, I’d just buy an Apple Airport Extreme router.
Hmm now amazon has the DIR-615 for $39.99, wasn’t when I ordered, or right after I ordered, with amazon I’d have to pay tax though. But then could return it easier maybe. Never had to return anything to buy.com, hopefully I won’t have to. How come there’s only 2 left in stock at amazon? If its such a bad router? Some of the reviews on amazon, don’t say what the problems are, so it isn’t helpful. So just ignore the reviews that are by morons, that don’t say what the problem is, they just say its garbage, they don’t give a clear reason as to why. Guess the clear reason is their a dumbass.
Hopefully I don’t get revision A, it appears to have many problems, if you read reviews.
Hmm says router shipped, guess they didn’t email me that yet, think USB adapter shipped to. Was thinking maybe I should cancel it, and pay more for linksys. Ahh well hopefully I’ll get lucky, and it’ll work.
FedEx says I should get router on the 14th, good reason to get free shipping, doesn’t take as long as they say.
If I got a linksys router, then I might be able to put DD-WRT on it, I think you can put DD-WRT on some of linksys wireless N routers. One review says if you put DD-WRT on it, then it’ll be stable. But then you’d think the default firmware should work, I think I also read that voids the warranty.
Maybe I should of got a gigabyte switch, and a long ethernet cable, and have my mac connected to the gigabyte switch, and the linkstation connected to switch. That would be faster then wireless. And maybe cheaper too. Ahh well already bought the wireless router, and USB adapter.
Maybe if the router is crap, I’ll go wired for myself. But the wireless USB adapter will probably work, wait, since it works with OS X, then maybe I’ll turn Aspire One into hackintosh, built in wireless doesn’t work with OS X, or at least that’s what I’ve read.
